Can't activate Akai MPK Mini

I bought the Akai MPK Mini midi controller and I can't figure out how to make it work with Reaper, or any thing for that matter.
Every thing on youtube says it's a plug and play and every one is having a wonderful time using the VSTs.
Me, not so much, not at all.

have you installed the akai drivers on your system.

If not then you need to do that first.

Then reaper options preferences midi devices

and enable the akai controller, if it does not show up as a midi device then the drivers are not correctly installed

Step 1: make sure that the bit with the black and white rectangular pieces on it is facing upwards and towards you.
