Default Reaper won't play any sound for MIDI files or projects

Hello,

I am new to Reaper and what I did pick up I forgot since I haven't used it for years and installed it on a new PC. Anyway, to my question.

When I load a MIDI file or a project that uses MIDI and press play, I hear nothing. What must I configure in order for Reaper to play MIDI files? Do I need to install sound fonts?

Thanks for your help,
Bryson

Midi is the information "a key was pressed"
Upon what the key was pressed, is not part of midi .

You will need to provide an instrument , virtual or real, to get sound out of it.

BTW..I am replying to my own thread with the answer that I found in case it helps any other new users in the future who might get this thread in their search results...

Each track has an FX button and you must choose what instrument via plug-in that track will have. You must use a SoundFont player plug-in like SFZ or SFZ+ to play MIDI tracks using soundfonts, otherwise you can assign it some other plugin to give it sound.
