Default Pro Tools 10 theme.

Hey there,

I'd like to challenge our themes to make an exact replica of the pro tools 10 gui. if you want to instate from scratch you can.. our just copy from the original gui... doesn't matter to me.

Why do I think the community should have this?

1. To a lot of new users the PT gui feels like home.
2. it's a professional looking gui that's excepted among the masses...
3. I don't see many themes being actively made and I think you guys might like a challenge.
4. I want to be able to trick clients. :-)

I can provide screen shots of gui elements if needed.

ps. I know there is a Walters pt 8 theme but side by side is not going to fool anyone into thinking I'm using pro tools.

All kidding aside I do not like the Protools interface ( mixer is okay)
it is a relic and a shoehorn interface

However having said that, what we need is for cockos to get off their ass and start putting every feature that they can from Protools and Sequoia into Reaper.

I have been saying that for a while, if cockos releases and open source fork then Avid or Magix would be fuked as they cold not come after Cockos.

Software patents are nothing more than the Elites trying to protect their turf and stagnating innovation

Believe me when I say this: If I was Justin, I would of taken out Avid Protools and maybe even Sequoia out of the picture a long time ago

And every studio out there would be running Reaper and not the shit called Profools.

You have no idea how Avid marketed it. They payed off studios to use it , gave it away for free to bigger studios.

Apple was doing the same shit too.

Now look at them...

Ever notice the Avid commercials? Some dude talking about Protools sitting in front of a $250,000 SSL console and another $500,000 in studio gear

WTF does he need Protools for LOL lame man just lame.

Damn Dan.

You turn almost every thread into a quasi-political rant about Apple or Avid or something or other. Are you okay man?

Have you gotten laid recently? I'm starting to become concerned... call 1-800-Hookers.

LOL lmao I always give ranted answers and tid bits hehehehe

Keeps posts alive and less boring.

Look at my VCA group automation or the MONO tracks issue in Reaper posts, now those are rants!! hehehehe

By the way I have someone looking at Reaper with dissasembling tools in order to figure out how to make reaper set fx to mono when working with mono tracks automatically.

Found some interesting things so far, what I was saying is indeed true about mono tracks.....I was right all along there is no code jump from the fx area pins to the track so reaper does not know you have a mono track.

Hope cockos does not take this the wrong way but someone has to do it as Cockos is not interested in fixing the problem that is now 3 years requested...

Man, I'm so glad you aren't Justin!!!

And when are you going to understand Justin doesn't give a shit about market domination or putting other DAWs out of business.

If I wanted to use ProTools, I would. I don't need Reaper to become anything other than what it is, not ProTools, Sequoia, Fruit Loops or any other DAW.

Did you ever consider people may really be getting tired of your rants? Think about it.

LOL great rant there love it!!

It is not about replacing Protools or this or that.

It is about all Daws out there having the same features, although not 100% clones of each other.

It is about having important features that are needed.

Your analogy of Reaper "It's not for pro's, it's only $60" is what I am getting from your mentality.

And example is Blender 3D, years ago everyone thought it was a joke as I did to. Now blender went out and put most of the features of maya and 3ds max in Blender 2.66!! and gave a big middle finger to Autodesk.

If you look at Autodesk Maya users forums they are now asking Avid, a FREE open source 3D app now has better tools than a $4000 Maya 3D app.

That is what I want to see with Audio Daw's. What happened with Blender is what should be happening with Reaper.

Blender 3D is FREE!! just to remind you. As you can see they put tools found in 3D apps costing $4000 into Blender, copied and improved them and now Blender is getting a lot of talk at Autodesk.

It is quite clear that the Blender Devs did not give a shit about what Autodesk thought about copied features.

Right. He couldn't even if he wanted to, it's literally impossible, and I think most rational people already know that. Like Roland, Yamaha, Apple and the like will just.... erm... stop making media software (?) because something else is so good they just can't compete in the market anymore? Like, in the future world of Stepford people where everyone drives the same car?

That's a pretty ridiculous idea any way you choose to look at it. The most amazing part of it is that (apparently) some seem to think it's actually possible.

It is to anyone who thinks because of the price that Reaper should not have features found in Protools or Sequoia because to me that is ABSURD!!

I just gave you the Blender 3D example. The Blender Devs pretty much went out and copied the major features of Maya 2013 and in fact exceeded them by miles!!

Now you can do things in Blender that you can not be done in Maya without expensive plugins, and Blender is doing this stuff built in!!

That is f***in progress pardon my language!!!

This is what I am pounding here. Just because Reaper is $60 does not mean it is automatically not intended to have pro features.

Blender 3D developers prove that WRONG!! As now Blender is a thorn on Autodesks side and is causing massive complaints in Maya's forums as people are asking Blender has our features and getting new ones!!!

That is my mentality COPY and improve.

I use Blender a lot and thank god those developers have some big balls in their nutcase to copy features from a $4000+ 3D app and MAKE IT GPL!!
Love this part

2) The GPL makes it so that all contributers must make their code open, this means that if someone distributes a version of Blender with a cool feature, everyone can have access to it.

That is PROGRESS!!

What (and with whom?) are you debating? Nobody here said any such thing.

What we are saying (that's quite true) is that Reaper (nor or any other DAW) is not going to drive the majors out of business. That's all Dan. A developer with enough time and talent can code anything they're capable of ... and sell it at any price they choose... so I'm not sure who you're arguing with and why exactly.

This was (?) just a thread asking for a PT 9 theme. I suppose it's been hijacked.

Maybe (just saying) you should start an open source daw project and show JCS how it's done?

The Ignore function is SO useful folks...

And Jonny I posted something similar a few weeks back. The PT Theme that is available is too bright compared to the real PT theme.

I don't want a GOOD copy/rip off of the PT Theme to fool people, I just want it because it is easy on me old eyes... ;P

So how about though theme builders? ha.. Thanks for the post jack Dan.. *Slap*

Smurf you can try the Imperial DarkSide theme if you have a large enough screen or 2 monitor setup. its pretty good in terms of being easy on the eyes.. and having a good contrast.

I just want ignorant clients to not know the difference visually. haha

1. I'm sure this is probably true, and justifies this thread.
2. I don't think it's professional looking. But because it is accepted as the de facto tool of many high-profile houses, it is by philosophical fallacy also accepted as superior in function and design, which as we know, is not accurate.
3. There's a bunch of themes being made, but maybe challenges are welcome too.
4. In this, I like your thinking.

Ever notice it's the same one or two people who ruin many potentially good threads?

Even using IGNORE doesn't bring the thread back to sanity though...

Sorry to go off topic for a moment but I thought Compass Point Studios was closed in 2010 and was no longer in the Bahamas?

On Johnny's idea --- I quite like it.

Staying off topic for just a moment, yes we closed the studio building, and are relocating to a spot in the NE USA. But am still living here in Nassau until all is complete and ready to go. Thanks.

I made a very minor request based on the protools theme.

Pretty smooth Albert.

One thing you do not need to copy in your theme is their silly repetition of the word "auto".

Their automation indicators in the mixer are alright, but far from the most usable. "auto" on top of "auto read" reads like someone's trying to teach a beginner with no option to go "read" with a nice green background.

Something to keep in mind if you don't mind. How far along are you with that theme ? The one thing I could contribute may be automation buttons.

Agreed. I think you are really close.

You will need a single pan option of course.. and the TCP is going to be where it will need some work im sure.

Is it possible to match the TCP area as close as your mixer?

VERY nice!

My ONLY complaint is that the Gray's in the fader areas are too "hard" or "solid" with the softer colors...if that makes any sense...

Just a IMHO, it's not like I could do any better! LOL
