Default Midi edit not possible after export

Today I exported a midi event. Nothing surprising, you might say, but now if I edit it in the midi editor, when I close it, it asks me if I want to save it. If I do, all other instances of the item will be edited, and if I don't, my edit is lost. Do you know the fix for this?
Thank you!

Export the Edited file as new midi file so you have the original
and the edit
