If you are looking to split stereo into separate L and R parts, you can do it with the plug in connections window. Example: to add a flange on left channel and a reverb on right channel, just untick the "2" connections on flanger, and the "1" connections on the reverb.
Interesting. Tks.
But I want to put a compressor on a track, separating the channels, so that the compression of the left is totally independent of the compression of the right. In Studio One, i can do it with a track option called SPLIT.

As far as I know there are two (or more) ways to achieve that:
1. the pin way, as Philbo said: this is a very powerful feature of Reaper, to built tracks of up to 64 channels...but that way you need two compressors, each listening to only one channel
2. go and get yourself a compressor with an option of processing Stereo, Dual Mono or M/S.
Scheps Omni Channel does processing how ever you like,
St, mono, dual mono, or M/S on all of it's modules and you can still add in inserts, and/or any combination of the above. each can be individually linked or unlinked per side giving independent control. Oh, and sidechains per side too.
And if you watch the waves site it will go through the rotation and it will come back for the $29 price again. Still a good value at $49 too.. '
This vid gives a quick tour, nicely done.
