Default Items change lanes when splitting

Hi!

I'm confused :/

When I split items that overlap on the same track, they are automatically sorted - they change their lanes. I noticed this WEIRD behaviour since last few betas, so I post it here.

Maybe I changed something in my settings, but I cannot find a switch anywhere. Or maybe something changed that I don't know?

Automatic sorting of splitted items on the same track is really bad thing - it makes a mess, when I try to remind which splitted parts were originally one part.

confirmed (IMO). I reported that as a bug (http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=621) but it doesn't seem to be considered as such.. no idea why..
More generally, either I'm a french guy having deep troubles to understand english or take lanes as well as items lanes simply do not behave as said in the v4 changelogs.

down with lane jumping I say.

Seems also related, but not sure if it's the same issue or correct behaviour:

I don't understand why 'Recording pass 2" item is allowed to jump to lane 1 when resizing. Shouldn't it actually stay in lane 2 (as in the order they were recorded) ? If it's not a bug, I'd like have an option to stop this happening.
(Items recorded with 'new recording creates new media item in seperate layer enabled', Reaper v4beta20)

Lane jumping when splitting is IMO a bug and it's a bad one. Cockos, please, fix it. No messing with lanes!

As I understand it, lanes are not based on recording time, but on start position, length or"room". So, when the size of Recording 2 is reduced, there is room for it to fit onto lane one, so it jumps to there.

Something similar occurs in V3:

What you are looking for is multiple permanent lanes within a track; something in between FIPM and the autolanes as we have at present.

But I want to have lanes. I just don't want items to jump like drunk rabbits.

I just checked: this annoying behaviour didn't exist in ALPHA36.

Please, fix it - Editing in lanes is unusable to me because of this jumping.

hi DS! it used to but according to this changelog:

But look!! Now that I quoted it I realize it's written "created" there (I was sure it was "recorded"). Dang! I can already see a dev chime in and say "hey kids, when you split an item a second one is created, right?". I hope we won't play with words here..

I think it's due to that other option "Show overlaping media items in lane" (2) which is tied to the one we're discussing here "Create new media item in separate lanes" (1) - where "tied" means enabling (1) automatically enables (2) and that complicates things a bit more.
To me, the prob is like they shouldn't be tied because today the (confusing?) result is that item lane ordering depends on recording passes AND the way items overlap. One should be able to have 3 record passes => 3 lanes no matter what (i.e. overlapping or not) OR automatically compact lanes when media items overlap. We have a mix of both behaviors today.

They also change lanes when deleting a take, Recording Lanes should not move around or shift ever

I know this thread is seven years old, but there has not been a fix, like an option created to "keep item in same lane when splitting from another" or some such. It would be such a relief to not have it jump around pointlessly, only for me to have to figure out what goes where and shift-arrow them back into place, which can be bizarrely tricky, with the behavior quite random-seeming. Often, if you have two identical-length items on top of each other in one track, splitting both makes them swap pairs! Which is pointless, frustrating, and confusing. Please make a fix for this long-standing problem! And thanks for everything else!
