Default reaper doesn't read

I have an issue with some files that some of my students cannot open in reaper.
lucmiteran.com/se/ptm2.mp4 is not open at all
lucmiteran.com/se/ptm2.avi can be open, but reaper just plays the sound. does anyone know a solution to this ? thank you

MacOS? Windows?

Files on network storage?

If MacOS, is it on the latest version of Mojave and is the network storage using SMB? If yes, are multiple students opening the same files?

There is, again, a problem with SMB in the latest version of Mojave, released a few days ago. If more than three or four users open a connection, Mojave stalls completely for almost five minutes, until authd is relaunched by launchd...

Other software trying to use authd is stalled too in that period.

Not very likely with home users, but because you are in .edu, it might be related.

OK, that means it's probably a Reaper issue and not an OS issue.

BTW. There is a French part of this forum too, with very knowledgeable people. Might be a tad easier?

I downloaded the mp4 file and it works perfectly in reaper

your students just need to get either the VLC media player and install it or get the ffmpg codecs ... VLC is the most easy way to go.
