Your wife's got a nice voice! I like the implied monotonity of the tune, like a big sustaining pedal point, until that middle 8.
The only thing that's a bit confusing is there's a lot of bass/mids left on the congas, and they are in the middle, so it kind of sounds like you're playing them in front of your wife. I would try to move them more to the side(s), and also make them smaller/thinner a bit. Maybe that's just me though. Anyway, thanks for posting it!

Thank you! That's just the kind of feedback I was looking for, I will try EQing and shifting the congas - there was something not quite right that I was missing and now it seems obvious, thanks again.

I'd like to get constructive feedback to help make the track the best it can be....

My wife Lucy and I have an album's worth of songs that we would like to record/mix as best we can - so any help would be greatly appreciated...

I'd rather make an automation so that congos gradually fade out when vocals step in. Somewhere (on the second minute?) there should be a culmination of the song, maybe try to double violins or smt? Maybe it's just me, but i don't really like songs, where's nothing happening. A bit of variations in dynamics would make it much more interesting.

Awesome vocals, i'd love to hear a more dynamic song with your wife singing.

Ok... so after a good long while we returned to this, and came up with (I hope) something more complete and cohesive. The prevailing lockdown has given us time to spend on honing into a more complete track.

Please, please give some feedback as this song means a lot to us..

thanks in advance and look after yourselfs..

Very beautiful and touching song and the singing was incredible.

I liked the mix overall but the vocals could have been more up front.

The strings at some moments sound a bit 'synthy' but nothing too bad.

Bass sounds awesome!

Thanks, this song feels like fresh air at a difficult time.

Had trouble with that.. on my monitors, the vocals were a bit shy at low volume and too strong at higher levels so ended up with a compromise... am I missing something in the mixing stage?

Strings are a mix of Cellofan and Spitfire pads freebies... I'll go through and EQ again or action any suggestions you might have.

Glad you enjoyed it! Recorded DI, with a Harley Benton PB50 - strung with 25year old worn out roundwounds that just sound good on anything i put them on...
