I'd like it so that the display of the fader value actually CHANGES from dB to 0-127 range when linking to MIDI volume. It only makes sense.
This is a FR, but it's almost down to a bug level. dB units simply have no relation whatsoever to MIDI volume, so use 0-127 instead. Also, the 0 dB notch should in that case disappear from the volume fader.

I resorted to the "rename last touched track" action to discover this.
I guess this is just a default theme quibble.

Yeah, I mentioned this somewhere already - I really hope it's a bug to be fixed and not a deliberate feature change! Can't see why though - the meter level of a VSTi is just as important to any 'real' instrument I'd say (and virtual instruments are the only type I use!).

I was able to recreate it.
crash report attached
reaper mac x64
Tried with a fresh project and same thing - press 'E' for inline midi editing then scroll pad sideways over midi take
(macbook)
***EDIT its not the scrolling part, it crashes just after pressing 'E'
***EDIT 2 - well if the midi part is off screen and you press 'E' its okay until you bring into focus and then zoom anywhere on track window with trackpad

If you edit a midi item in a time selection you lose the active position indicator in the midi editor. I am guessing this is customizable but I think it is a bit confusing for the default theme.

GUI Messed Up
[IMG]http://img190.**************/img190/5706/reaper4messdup.png[/IMG]
After undocking the midi editor this happened. And it remains even after quitting & restarting Reaper. Its definitely some sort of graphics problem because when right clicking on Reaper when its like this the desktop options come up instead of the Reaper menu. If it helps my graphics card is a Nvidia 8500GT. I've never had this sort of problem with Reaper before.
Reaper was still like this even when I started up v3.72, but all was back to normal after logging out & back in again.

=================================================
Here are my ideas and observations so far:
Zero crossing transient detection is spotty.
Hover over FX button, it says "FX enabled" but should say "No FX", when no effects have been applied.
Using folders in the TCP is hard!
Shift/alt on overlapping items causes a dual time stretch,
but instead of the two hands you see the dual crossfade symbol.
If all the FX on a track have been disabled, the FX button should be yellow instead of green.
When using Ctrl/drag to fine adjust FX values, it's often not fine enough e.g. Reacomp attack and release settings. You should be able to increment or decrement one LSB.
I'd like a way to make fine adjust the default setting.
F11 should remove title bar from floated FX window.
Floated windows should be magnetic.
Snap to project sample rate doesn't seem to work.
Phase should be called polarity. Can I change that in walter?
MCP resize behavior should be the same as for TCP. You still can't drag a channel to resize it.

Video Window doesn't follow the "Use large window frames" preference. In 3.x it did I think.

More of a nitpick...
Problem: When setting "VST plug-in paths" in options, REAPER stops scanning if entered folder contains only sub-folders.
Background: I have my VSTs installed like this:
Code:
C:\sound\plugins\
\-commercial
\-demo
\-free
\-company 1
\-plugin 1
| -> .dll and stuff
\-plugin 2
-> .dll and stuff
\-company 2
\-company 3
Behaviour in v3: I could simply enter "C:\sound\plugins" as my VST path.
Effect in v4: No VST plugins are being found by REAPER.
Workaround:Set VST plug-in paths as follows:
Code:
C:\sound\plugins\commercial;C:\sound\plugins\free;C:\sound\plugins\demo
(EDIT: Forgot to say, GREAT JOB GUYS, looks very promising! Really looking forward for the final product.)

If you audition a note using the keyboard in the MIDI editor, and then draw the same note in the piano roll, the piano roll note is 2 semitones lower than the auditioned note.

1) Floating plugin window bug:
if you click the "always on top" button, close the window and then
reopen it (by clicking the plugin slot in the mixer),
the floating window is no longer "always on top".
[ Btw it would be easier to use if all floating plugin windows could share the "always on top" state. Or if you could reuse one window, i.e. reuse (link) one floating plugin window to show slots currently clicked in the mixer, a la Logic window with the "link" button enabled. Or if plugins were always on top by default.]
2) Docked/undocked mixer and screensets bug.
When you have two screensets,
and a mixer in each of them,
each copy has its individual size and position (good).
But if you dock one of them,
switch back and forth between screensets and then undock it again,
the mixer window "forgets" its original parameters and takes its new size/position from the other copy in the other screenset(bad).
[Also it would be better if one could save screensets within a project, this is how it works in Logic. Also, in Logic you can see the screenset number and autosave status ("#" <--- protection from screenset autosave)) in the menu bar - time saving, you know where you are.]
3) You cannot maximize a docked mixer to cover the whole screen. Why ? Often you would want it to be the only window in a screenset.

Yep. That frustrated me a bit too! That's the first thing I do with any new project - select "Add virtual instrument on new track", add mu VSTi of choice and start playing!

Confirmed. There is a checkmark next to "Input: MIDI" in the context menu, but no input is assigned.

Some Wine-specific bugs:
- FX don't show up in FX browser. It looks like the list gets filled internally though, the scrollbar is there.
- The thumbtack icon stays on top even when REAPER is in the background. For Wine users, it would be better to have an option to remove the icon and use the built-in window manager functionality instead (works best with "Use large (non-tool) window frames for windows" enabled).

***EDIT - also does the same thing on reaper x64 mac 3.73 (guess thats why its still beta, but you'd want that one fixed for version 4

With the new input fx running on a mono track, I had a fx chain that went reaeq into 1-in 1-out into blockfish in mono mode, but the audible output was clearly different on left/right. Recording the track as stereo instead of mono fixed the issue. Something weird going on there.
Also adding a vsti input selects a weird/broken midi input by default.
I've also had a couple of vsti crashes with sampletank, kontakt and synth1 that only seem to occur when playback starts - not often but it does happen sometimes.

Track Manager Solo/Mute status retained after toggled off
1. Open any project with multiple tracks
2. View track manager
3. Show all tracks
4. Mute two or three, solo two or three others (all in track manager window)
5. Unmute and unsolo them all (still in TM window)
Play song
Although mute and solo buttons are not shown and active, the mute and solo from before is still applied to the tracks. Muted/unsoloed tracks are also greyed out in arrange view.

Oh and yeah, a nitpick rather than a bug but folder indent in tcp needs to be more obvious and I miss having pan control on small tcp panels.

Solo toggle doesn't work in Media Bay
1. Open media bay for any project
2. Select any active item.
3. Right click over name choose solo from menu
4. Right click over name choose solo from menu again:
Expected behaviour: Track is unsoloed - this looks like a toggle command
Actual behaviour: nothing happens. Item remains soloed. All other items have to be selected and unmuted manually.

Out of Memory with Kontact 3.5
Reopening a song containing large library with Kontact3.5 causes an out of memory error, Reaper then closes
-- steps to recreate
Load a song with with Kontact3.5 and big library like SSD3.5, if reaper crashes then reopen song
-- result
Out of Memory Error, have to restart windows to load song again
-- expected result (preferred)
Song reloads without restarting windows

This is with 32-bit Reaper on XP, might be similar to the crash I get on Win7 x64.
Code:
AppName: reaper.exe AppVer: 3.9.1.1 ModName: reaper_explorer.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000016a7

Crashes, OSX PPC
I'm just testing Ollie's Schope/Stereo panning assembly (see forum post gif) and getting lots of crashes on adding Reacomp or Schope in Alpha 2, OSX PPC, Leopard.
I have TAL Noisemaker generating a tone from a midi track with one continous long note droning. That's it for effects. Nothing demanding. Problem occurs while inserting new Cockos fx (Reacomp) or dragging Schope from fx window into another channel's fx window.
UPDATE: Problem has disappeared. Installed A3 but not sure if that made the difference or just restarting the program.

In Alpha3, items seem to be snapped to project sample rate no matter what. I've tried to disable/enable that option, close/restart, etc., but it seems to be stuck at it.

When I switch to vertical meters it doesn't change until I unselect the track, and the vertical meters disappear again on any selected track.
I'm using the UberXonix theme if that matters.
OTOH, my previous crashes with the ME seem to have been fixed with alpha3.

Bug Entering MIDI Time Value
In the Reaper 3.x MIDI editor, if I enter a MIDI time value with more decimal points than Reaper allows, the value is rounded to two decimal points appropriately (I am not a fan of this rounding, but at least it works correctly):
Example: Enter "1.0.015" and it rounds to "1.0.01"
In the V4 alphas, the rounding is not correct:
Example: Enter "1.0.015" and it becomes "1.0.15"
This happens whether the value is typed directly into the event list (yeah! new feature in V4), or entered via old the Ctrl-F2 dialog box method. It also happens if I use the Ctrl-F2 dialog to enter a relative offset with too many decimal points:
Example: Start with the initial MIDI position (or length) of "1.0.0". Ctrl-F2 and in the dialog, type "+0.0.015". The resulting value will be "1.0.15" (same as if "1.0.015" was typed into the dialog box as in the example above.
This is especially noticeable when a value like "1.0.0099" turns into "1.0.99" (almost a whole quarter note off!). As a rule, I usually don't go beyond 3 decimal points, but an example like that illustrates the magnitude of the problem.
PS - While I'm on the subject, can V4 allow more than two decimals of precision? It seems silly to default to 960 ticks per quarter note, but the editor only accepts values in the range of 0-100.

We'll fix the manual entry rounding, thanks for catching that.

When you have the MIDI editor timebase set to ticks (under the MIDI editor options menu), there are three digits of precision shown. When it's set to hundredths of a beat, there are two digits shown.

for the first time, I seemed to get a pop, a buffer underrun type of pop... I was able to remove it, however it was disconcerting to say the least. Not sure how I can track it down, all I know is that I haven't had this type of pop... well, since I had a p4.
also, it seems that the item fx, izotope declicker, isnt rendering with PDC properly... not sure if that's an alpha problem.

Snapping is even worse than before :/
http://www.adamwathan.com/reaper/r4snapbugfromhell.swf
My items are snapping to some bizarre grid that doesn't exist and even slip editing is snapping to some invisible grid.
