2 Actions for VCA users
The needSession navigation with tracks on a controller, and no extra windows or information displays.
VCA masters are an excellent way to navigate down to VCA slave tracks. For this two actions are required.
Request for actions- Show all tracks marked as VCA Masters that are not also VCA slaves, hide others
This is the starting point.
- Show group-member slaves of selected tracks, hide others
This is the drill-down action. You start with the VCA masters and work your way down.
For one level of VCAs, this would require 3 actions by the user to find the tracks they need, and two additional actions per level.
Masters, select track, show slaves, select track, show slaves, and so on.
Benefits over other solutionsFirst the other solutions and their downsides.- Track views can be used to show/hide groups of tracks, but you need to know what tracks are assigned to what track view. The track view can be named, but it is another list view to keep on hand so you know what track view to use.
- Groups suffer from the same problem. You need to know what group takes you where, and that is even harder to find. The group names are displayed in the group matrix and the track group properties, but nowhere else.
- Filtering by name in the track manager is even more work. Call up the track manager, click in the filter area, typing in several characters to find your tracks if that's possible. You now need to invent and keep track of inventive short descriptor names for your tracks to later find them again with this method.
The elegance of VCA drill down is its simplicity.
Show the top-level masters(i.e. not also slaves), select the master, show its slaves.
Every step of the way that information is presented to you as track names, both on your control surface and your TCP/MCP. No extra windows necessary, and so easy to go back from. Just show all tracks.
Navigation made easy. Show all, Show VCA Masters(non-slaves)-hide others, Show group-member vca slaves-hide others.
What do you think ?

We can get via API if a track is VCA master/slave so both actions should be scriptable I think.

Sure, but then it has to be installed and more importantly, I have to find the action command id to trigger with anything I do in CSI, and thus edit the zone file for a device.
That's why I'm only asking for two actions . Useful straight out of the box. Hopefully two actions are easier for Justin and Schwa.

Bump up for folks that might miss this otherwise.
Would you like to navigate your larger sessions through these two actions and simply selecting tracks ?
