I would say from another daw to Reaper provided you do some research. I can't think of another daw that lets you set it up in such a way that you can emulate the workflow of another software. There are exceptions (playlists for one) but in general the switch can be made fairly painlessly after doing a little homework.

I think it is impossible to transition from Reaper, once you use Reaper in depth. But if you just use it in a simple way, without going deep, you can switch to and others easily. Basic principles are the same for all.

I think it was WAY easier to transition to Reaper. The ease of sidechaining sold me immediately and the same day I left slow tools behind.

I think switching DAWs would be a tall order and you'd have to be either really hungry for a feature or really stuck from crashing or poor performance to budge and go through a learning curve. It's learning vs jumping straight in and getting to work.

It took the Protools HD v9 update debacle to force my hand. Reaper turned out to be a huge upgrade and I'm beyond glad I had the opportunity! I'd likely still be running Protools HD if that hadn't come about. (Reading comments about how they're 15 years out of date with features and the crash king and just thinking "Huh... Wonder what that's about...")

What are you stuck on with Reaper, @for? What other DAW app are you looking at that says it can do the thing? Tell us what the task is and someone will have an idea.

Nope, literally just routing to another track on channels 3 and 4 and then using those channels as the side chain. Soooo easy!

Everyone knows if you figure out how to actually use REAPER, and take the time to set up a personal configuration and download the good scripts/tools -- there's no going back!

All other DAW's feel so incredibly handicapped in comparison, not to mention slow.

In theory, you should be fine if you understand the basics, but not everyone is the same.
