Default Media explorer standalone

While I prefer to work in Reaper whenever I can, some projects require me to work in Nuendo which has a clunkier and painfully slow media explorer. For this reason I always open Reaper in parallel and use its MX to browse for files while just hiding the main Reaper window.

The drawback is that when Reaper's MX is in focus, shortcuts can be passed through to Reaper's main window and I can do things inadvertently like starting and never stopping playback. I feel having two DAWs running in parallel can be more resource intensive and less stable than running just one DAW and a dedicated file browsing app.

As Reaper's MX is pretty advanced, I thought it could be a good idea not only for my specific situation but for people in general to be able to use it as a standalone file browser for whenever fast and more advanced file searching is necessary.

And it can be made together with a batch file converter. And you could put files from MX to the converter directly.

BTW, why that cannot be done now inside Reaper? It can be done only manually opening the batch converter and dragging the files into it. No actions.

Good idea!

Also support for docking the BC in Reaper would be nice.

I would love this.

There's really a lack of good media explorers for sound.

The only comparable alternative I've found is Resonic but it's in beta and the last release was in 2019.
