"Audition" Items (ala SONAR)?
Hi-
Sorry if this should be obvious! I'm still having some "translation" issues!
Sometimes I want to hear only one or more selected Items without changing the Solo/Mute status of any tracks. In SONAR, this is done by selecting the clip(s), then Transport > Audition.
How do I do this in REAPER?
Thanks-
-Susan

I think it can be done with a macro but you may need to install SWS extensions (Which every Reaper user should do anyway)
If you struggle with it post back and i will have a look for you see if i can work something out (Little bit drunk at the minute)

I do have the latest SWS extensions installed, but I don't see any actions to replicate this behavior. I appreciate your help!
Thanks-

If i understand you.. You can do it with the the sws "preview" actions but only for one item at a time. I've got macros that allow you to float your mouse over the item and play and stop just that item from the exact place you have your mouse out (by a custom macro that splits the item, selects right, previews it and glues it back together again)
.
You can also create a macro that could zoom, solo and play till end of selected items but you need a separate one to undo the zoom and stop playing.
.
Not exactly what you want but hope it helps.

Xenakios/SWS: Preview selected media item (toggle)
But as mentioned, will only playback one item at a time.

Hi-
Thanks for the suggestions! Preview works fine for Audio, but unfortunately not at all on a MIDI Item, even after I convert it to a file (Ghost copy).
Oh well...
Thanks anyway!

"Xenakios/SWS: Play selected item(s) once" and "Xenakios/SWS: Loop and play selected item(s)" also don't work with MIDI?

Those don't solo the selected item, though. All unmuted tracks play for the item's duration.

I guess I'll post this in the FR forum, then, along with my question about hearing multiple MIDI Items play back in the ME.
Unless there are other suggestions?
A workaround for the MIDI Item Audition issue is to open it in the ME and turn off Sync with Main Transport, but that's kind of a long way around.
Thanks-

Hi Mario-
Okay. I didn't see anything in that thread more current than last November, though. Is that what you were directing me to?
"Difficult but possible" -- Obviously, the most-requested FRs should take precedence, but I'm starting to think lots of the stuff I used most in SONAR and started to take for granted are going to take a long time to implement in REAPER!
Thanks-

You could always start a bounty at Reaper Bounties
That may help speed up the process

Hi NAS-
Just took a look -- very interesting concept! Unfortunately I'm still job-hunting, so donations for non-essentials are pretty much out of the question at the moment! I'll have to be patient for now.
BTW, how does this work in terms of the "regularly scheduled programming", if you know? I saw the rules re what happens if Cockos adds a feature that was already assigned to one of the extension developers. So if something is requested there, it still makes sense to request it here, right? I assume the teams communicate regularly to avoid duplicate efforts.
Thanks!
-Susan
