Default How to disable webcam?

Whenever I run Reaper, my webcam light comes on. It usually stays on even if I minimise Reaper.

It's quite disconcerting. OK so Reaper has video editing abilities, great, but it shouldn't access the webcam unless/until I want to use it. Why is it always active?

How can I stop Reaper from accessing it (without disabling it for other programs).

Yes, webcam has built-in mic.

Forgot to mention I'm on Windows 10 too, and Reaper 6.01

It shouldn't come on unless it is somehow being seen by the audio driver you selected (which will happen if the camera mic is the only mic input available and you happen to choose the OS defaults as the sound card) - that said, it's only on for audio input, not video.

Ohhhh it's only for audio. I didn't even think of that. I plug in a proper mic when I need one. Won't ever be using the webcam mic inside Reaper (but use it for Skype calls etc). Not sure if there's a way to tell Reaper not to use it.

+1 on that. Just make sure it's not cellophane tape.

I've been putting a little piece of electrical tape over my camera for several years now. You never know when you might have accidentally done something stupid, let your guard down, and allowed a virus on your PC to take control of the camera. Audio will still go through, potentially, but oh well.. just don't watch me using my PC while taking a dump, and then put that video on the net.. haha TMI? oops.

Someone should write a little piece of javascript code that injects a motion gif into the the webcam interface memory (what is it WIA in Windows), so if someone does access your camera interface they see this.
