Default Reaper sending unwanted Volume Changes to MIDI device: Help STOP it.

MODX connected to PC via MIDI USB cable. Nothing else involved.

A track created to record a MIDI part from MODX.

Having successfully recorded a track, have chosen to change the instrument's volume, as used on the MODX, from about 80% (what it was recorded at) to 50%, by MODX slider volume control.

Playback initially starts correctly at the new volume. During playback from Reaper, pressing Space Bar to stop playback "resets" the volume of the Part to maximum. Pressing it again to playback reduces the volume to about 95%. Neither of these values were what the part's volume was set at.

There is nothing in the CC view, (7 is used for volume on MODX) and all have been deleted, including any use of sustain pedal, just in case anything in the CC's was doing this.

Where is this phantom signal to control part volume coming from, and how to stop it from occurring?

having the same issue. Having somewhat success, i tried disabling midi preferences (don't send volume reset). But then the issue is on and off. i adjust volume on the keyboard mixing screen under performance, tap channel volume bar and adjust with data dial. main takeaway: Don't adjust volume with keyboard sliders when you're on a midi track in reaper that is record-armed (and/or has monitoring on), that seems to trigger the issue.
