Default Installing Plugins/VST/AU On External Drive

So, I have very limited capacity (128GB total) on my MBP internal SSD. Is there a way to install .pkg and .dmg files to an external drive? Also, for VST and AU files, am I correct in assuming that I can just move them from the libray/audio folder on the Mac to a folder on the external drive and add that folder to the ones Reaper scans on startup?

I’m pretty sure you can install any application/program on any compatible drive.
Use good quality SSD drives and a powered usb hub if running out of slots.
Most likely your usb slots are usb 3 or C so data transfer will be fast.
Many people including me run libraries etc from external drives.
You can save your projects to ext drives.
I run Native Instruments Komplete and spitfire orchestras from external SSDs. No problem.

There is plenty of info out there to assist you.

Good luck.
