2 part Qu for Linux noob
Hi all,
2 parter Qus and looking for some assistance please? Trying out the v5.941 Linux build on a RPi 3B+ using DietPi. Upgraded DPi and also changed out Dropbear for OpenSSH FTP server to allow for SCP to work. [another head scratcher overcome...]. Logged in as root. SCP'd the REAPER folder and install-reaper.sh after unzipping the TAR file to some user space on RPi [ /mnt/dietpi_userdata/Music/Reaper in this case]. Ran Bash install-reaper.sh to install to /opt/REAPER. Repeated the above logged in as DietPi user. In both cases I get permissions errors when trying to fire up Reaper from the CLI. Am about to scrap all and re-install DPi & Reaper. Qu1: [got there eventually!] is this the best approach to set up on the Pi or have I missed a fundamental step [being a Linux baby-stepper]? Qu2: The reason to try Reaper on Linux at this time is both through ignorance and persistence... Some time back I posted a request in the MIDI area [https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=191736] re the Emagic AMT8 MIDI i/o and unable to run on W10. Given the collective knowledge here, would Linux support this box [AMT8] without a driver? My hope is that I can use the AMT8 via Linux and link the W10 licensed instance with the Linux portable install. If not, then all hope then rests with me finding a suitable machine to run MacOS. Thanks in advance. Cheers Yorky |

Maybe use rsync rather than scp? scp might not be preserving permissions...
Or you can ssh in, download the reaper tarball from the pi, and extract/install there. |

Hi Justin,
Thanks for your reply. I tried a Raspian image, SCP’d again but still getting permission error when trying fire up Reaper so rsync comes next. Good to capture these dumbas3 noobsville at least BTW my buddy CoBol says “hi” from the distant past. Don’t shoot me now Yorky |

So my Linux noob quest continues with SUCCESS!
I eventually realised [with guidance!] that my Raspian image on the Pi 3B+ does actually have a browser [doh!] and downloaded the ARMv7l image. Lo and behold - there is Reaper on a Pi!! Along the way, I discovered: * W10 can install several Linux distros now and have successfully installed Debian on my lappy. I think that is cool, but then again I'm easily fooled * I also tried to install the x86 Reaper image for sh1ts and kicks. It got further than I expected but ran into a shared lib issue which I didn't capture. Next up is to connect a Tosh U800 audio i/o and also try the AMT8 for size. Will update as I know more for all those interested. Cheers |

After some initial playing around with interfaces I can not get my Tascam U122L or my Tascam US800 audio/midi i/f to function correctly - yet! The U122L is USB powered and fired up OK - just not being seen in the audio devices window. Tried both JACK & ALSA but the input channel is showing "NOT CONNECTED". The US800 is powered separately with the same outcome. I have 2 more audio i/f units to test with.
The Emagic AMT8 however IS identified under the midi device section and can enable/disable ports. I have yet to try to hook up a midi device but this initial test fills me with some joy! All those semi retired/redundant AMT8 units out there might just have a second life? Looking forwards to seeing how this all pans out from here onwards. Big thanks Cockos & all you experts for this development. Cheers |
