Default Super Drum Freebie

EDIT : If you dont want to wade through the long discussion on this thread, go the goodies directly at this post :
http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=186

Otherwise, carry on ---

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was too good not to share :

This one is truly excellent freebie with more than enough variety for a multitude of different kits.
It’s a single kit but all the components have been sampled at at least 5-6 different tunings, plus the rides / hats and cymbals have three kinds of articulation.

The clincher is the fact that everything has 16 velocity layers (which can be thought of as 8 layers plus 2 round robins J ).

The very nice naming technique ensures that setting it up in any half decent sampler is fast and hassle free. I set up a very nice sounding kit within 15 minutes in Reaper with RS5K.

All in all, ridiculous that this is a freebie.

Here’s the link :

http://smithultd.com/drum-pack-volume-1/

and please do donate. This must have been very hard work. I am looking forward to new stuff from these guys.

EDIT :

Ready to go Reaper track template for the above samples :

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/19727/SMITH...RTrackTemplate

After you download the above, save it to your Reaper resource path -->TrackTemplates

Open a new project, and right click--> insert track template

It will ask you where the files are. Just point it to the correct folder .

This is where you are keeping the drums you downloaded from :
http://smithultd.com/drum-pack-volume-1/

The file/folder structure and naming of that sample pack should be unmodified for this to work.

Then you are set to go.

Press play to hear how it sounds. The track names are self explanatory and the routing is pretty straight forward.

I've had two attempts at downloading. It doesn't give the option of where to save to, no option for using a download manager and both times it stopped with an error at 65% with no way of picking up where it left off. I'll just have to hope it isn't as great as you say it is.

It downloads in temp and asks where to save at the end. But it downloaded twice for me without a hitch. And it didnt work with the download manager. The download itself was superfast though. Maybe too much traffic ?

I also tried to download and it also stopped for me at 65%. I tried it twice now and got the same result.

Do you have to be registered?

No problems on the D/L at all. Just got through installing the rather nice Drummica free from sennheiser & have to finish putting up bass traps before I get to play any more.

I often wonder how I ever found time to work before I retired.....

Which version of the js sequencer baby (something like that) do you use. I have the newest version, but when I loaded the track template you provided, it said that the plugin was missing. So I loaded the version I have, but it still does not work. Maybe I need specific settings on the JS plug....?

Did you install whatever VST/AAX/AU it offers, or just the media content? Aren't the other parts just the free Kontact?

Yep, with Drumica i only installed the library and vst ( just to be safe ). Worked fine in my k5.

About jnif, i used v 45 in my template. I though the state would be saved by default.

It is used in the subtrack called midi, so just insert your version.

Mapping is GM midi drums.

So is the template working for you guys ?

If this downloading frustration ever sorts itself out, let me know. The site looks like a bad DIY kludge (check the comments), which can't help.

For those who got through, is the sample quality worth it?

Thanks for any reviews!

The template is not working for me. I have a newer version of Sequencer Baby, and the template loads with that plugin as not available. I have tried to swap it for the one I have, but get no sound. The Reaper Stash has a zip file of older versions, and the one missing is the one you said that you used..... So no joy.

Just delete that jnif seq from the track called MIDI.

Then do one of the following on the MIDI track:

- put in a jnif seq that you have, click in some notes n press play
- insert a midi item / midi loop on that track and press play
- use your drum pad / midi keyboard to play the kit

Any of the above should help in testing out the kit for you.
Remember that the kit is mapped to General MIDI drum.

Oooh, nice find, suleiman!

There can never be enough drumkits. I might turn this into a self-contained Kontakt instrument, with effects and stuff, as time allows.

The same happens here at 75%.

I have no idea where it downloads to. I checked every possible destination and tried the XP search, but nothing came up during the download.

Yeah i tried searching for a contact on the site, but all i could do was post comments.

Any ideas to trace the developer ? Its wierd that someone would release such a massive labour of love without any fanfare and then dissapear :{

Re: downloading - if you're using Firefox, MEGA site has a slightly peculiar way of working so it first downloads the whole file into your RAM before writing it to the disk. You need to install a Firefox extension that deals with this issue.

The hosting site, MEGA, is an enterprise run by Kim Dotcom, who ran Megauploads until he was stopped from doing so.

There's a review of MEGA here, with quite a few comments:

http://www.zdnet.com/review-what-to-...ge-7000010089/

The drums sample download does impact on RAM and CPU load.....maybe those experiencing problems are simply running out of available RAM?

From the smithultd website, under 'About':

"SmithULTD is a small art and design business created to bring your great designs."

Nothing about music there.....

The typo is interesting, when considered against one of the comments on the MEGA review page linked to above.

Seems fishy, somehow......not much to go on, just.....somehow fishy .

Why are the two comments on the samples download page both partially masked by photographs?

And this, from the smithultd homepage:

"Resources for Musicians

Being musicians ourselves, we collect many resources and tools from all over the internet and will share them with you."

Really?

How very kind.

With permission, one hopes. And perhaps a credit?

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm out of this one.

I had to use Chrome. IE10 wouldn't do it, and it tells you it's not compatible. But yeah, it is kind of a weird method of downloading.

Yeah it is quite wierd. As is the photo. But still, if its ripped from elsewhere, someone would have chimed in, no ?

Im myself familiar with MANY drum sample libraries, and this is unlike any of them.

I was actually listening for pitching artifacts, but it seems to be genuinely tuned drum pieces.

Im gonna post this at kvr to check .

Of course, it might not be fishy at all. Rather vague it all is, though, I feel.
