Default SRC Comparisons

Anyone got any good introductory explanations on sample rate conversion?

I was looking at this website and trying to understand the differences in SRC performance between DAW's, and why some sweeps leave a graph with many lines, and others leave only one visible line.

I've never had any audible problems converting between 44.1kHz (CD) and 48kHz (video) no matter what software I was using so this isn't something I worry about. Changing microphones or changing microphone position will make a bigger difference than using a different SRC. You can measure lots of things that you can't hear!

"Many lines" are aliases (false/additional frequencies that didn't exist in the original).

Probably the most important thing (maybe the ONLY important thing) is filtering and the Nyquist limit. If you don't filter before downsampling you get aliasing.

I could be wrong, but I think a lot DAWs just implement SRC algorithms made by someone else. So it doesn't have much to do with the DAW itself, more with the inherent differences between those algorithms in the first place.

Most of these algorithms are pretty damn good, now. I know a lot of people claim to hear huge differences between sample rates and converters, but I don't and probably never will.

Even so, I record all of my audio at the sample rate I mix at (48k) and do any mass converting outside of Reaper with Izotope RX. Reaper still has to convert some stuff anyway, like Kontakt libraries that operate at 44.1k.

Quite apparent to me,
I use Voxengo R8 Brain now. The first time I used it I said WOW it stopped me in my tracks.

No, you receive 1m if you correctly pass the test. No one has ever done it.

Perhaps fear of being wrong stops them from their true decisions by muddling their minds?

Someone thought a long time ago that watching a nuclear bomb go off would not bring about problems to the lined up military...
At the end of the day it is going to boil down to personal preference I am airing mine.
