Default Linux ?

Is this just a test site or is this a real commitment to providing reaper for Linux.

Will reaper run on linux or will wine or some other software be required to make this work.

Last but not least, what is recommendation for computer system for Linux.

I hope this is a full commitment to providing an Linux version, now I have hope of escaping the microtrash nightmare.

You might want to have a look at the Download page:

It's been in private testing for a long time already, but they're apparently comfortable enough that it works (mostly) to do a public release. As the note on the download page says, it's still experimental, but it's a functioning, native Reaper.

It runs without wine. It's officially "experimental", but I didn't find any problems with it yet. I would say it runs as good and fast as on windows, if not better (?). No crashes at all.

Concerning hardware there are compatibility lists out there. If buying a Desktop PC you can almost buy what you want, I guess. I would check the board manufacturer and the GPU before buying. Some graphic drivers can make problems.

Hi, linux version is real, and works very well for me,
nvidia 9400 video card, maudio pci soundcard, Studio 1337,
Mint 18, and pclinuxos linuxi.

The only crash I've had was when the online version checker option
was active, and one time it coincided with some action
that locked the system solid. But normally, it's a pleasure to use.
I also use the windows version in wine, which also works well.

There's a little write-up regarding windows vsts being wrapped
for use in linux, by the LinVst app, at the link:

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=209210

A wide range of native linux vsts and windows vsts
will work fine.
Cheers

Judging by the speed that Justin addresses reproducible issues I would say it is a very real committent.

For linux audio in general you can do a lot with modest hardware. Very recent hardware can sometimes be problematic because it takes someone to write a patch and add it to the kernel, and then you need to receive that new kernel. Depending on your distro this could be very quick or not so much.

Download a distro you like the look of, avlinux would be a good place to start if you want to test audio things, write it to a usb stick and boot in to it, you can try it live.
