Default Best MIDI controller for Reaper 49/61 keys

Not playing live gigs anymore and want to set up a studio for recording.
Most of my sounds are coming from hardware synths (Korg Nautilus, MODX6 and NordD5)
so I dont need deep synth control, just at least 8 faders and knobs and good latency.
I currently have a Nektar 49+ but havent started using it yet. Whats reccomended.
I dont give a crap to control Ableton...I am a Reaper guy only! Thanks
James

Hi Deadkeys,
Why the hesitation with trying your current purchase?
What don't you like about the Nektar then?

Do you want MIDI connections built into the keyboard to operate your hardware synths?

Do you want expression pedal input?
Mono/channel aftertouch?

Do you want semi weighted or synth action keys?

What budget?

Default Midi Controller

Thnaks for the reply Softsynth.... I have actually not used it yet and before I dive in wanted to know if it was the best controller for Reaper... others to my understanding are designed for other DAWs and controlling softsynths. I guess I should just give it a try. The M Audio Oxygen Pro looks good....but the Necktar has all I need too.

Beyond the marketing and out of the box templates or control software applications that controller and most other MIDI controllers have a set of simple generic MIDI switches that can easily be made to work with Reaper.
Especially when you're talking about keyboard controllers better integration with "X"DAW tends to just mean that out-of-the-box experience. That's more about a marketing exercise than absolute limitations.
Specialised high end control surfaces may be a little different.

This thread came up when I searched for 'Nektar' - I'm looking for a controller too, and I read that Nektar Panorama series (P1/P4/P6) units have pretty good integration with Reaper, and also with VST instruments.

If anyone is using their Nektar P-series, are they actually that good?

@Deadkeys - is there a problem with the Nektar? Thanks

You can use the search bar in the forum to find posts on Nektar controllers. That way you should find any negative or positive experience posts. It looks mostly positive to me. They seem to be popular at the low end or entry level of the market - from user's initial impressions.

This might be interesting?:

If that's how you want to use it?

I see you have a parallel conversation in this thread:
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=258807

I'm not using Nektar products. I tend to ignore the manufacturer's integration software. YMMV.

Thanks, yes I watched that YT vid, and it seems on balance that Nektarine is the better VST tool over Komplete Kontrol. I looked at getting a S61 MkII (Guy Michelmore uses the 88-key one) before noticing the P1 has the controls my Yamaha keyboard lacks for MIDI control, and I thought why ditch a perfectly okay keyboard when all I need is the controls.

Anyway, I've ordered a P1 and will see how it goes with the Reaper integration. I'm hoping it'll mean I can use Reaper more quickly than currently (am still finding my way TBH).
