Default Drag and select using trackpad

How do you drag and select (as in highlighting multiple cuts) using just the trackpad on a MacBook pro?

Hi,

I'm really looking for an answer myself at the moment, as I'm forced to use a Magic Trackpad 2 as my mouse is broken.

I found a workaround which is enabling "Control+left-click emulates right-click" in Preferences-Mouse.

It works pressing ctrl and then pressing and dragging, but I would like to find a solution that doesn't involve pressing a keyboard button.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks!

Assuming you're talking about marquee select (https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#GIBt8AjdwEM):

One option to try is to assign it to a left drag mouse modifier (instead of or in addition to the default right drag one):
  • Go to Preferences > Mouse Modifiers
  • Select [Track] [left drag] at the top
  • Double-click on the Behavior column of the Default action and set it to Marquee select items
  • Confirm the changes via the [OK] or [Apply] button

Or are you referring to something else?

Dear solger, you're a star! Thanks, that's exactly what I was referring to.
It works perfectly now.

Is there a chance I can make it work in the midi editor and pretty much everywhere else too?
In the mouse modifiers preference section I couldn't choose "left drag" in the MIDI EDITOR context...

Thanks again!

For the MIDI Editor, it's [MIDI piano roll] [left drag] and Marquee select notes.

What does this overwrite / replace and why is this not set to the default operation of a trackpad?

It seems absolutely insane that a MIDI editor not default to having a working marquee selection for a trackpad/laptop BY DEFAULT!

And, on a Mac, how is this editable with a trackpad? Double clicking any of the entry areas to change/add an entry quickly shows a drop down list, and then instantly removes it. I presume plugging a mouse in will make it editable. I hope...

Truly a hateful experience.
