You don't need Midi-OX, just turn on midi in monitoring in the CSI config dialog.

Yeah, that's an effect of using the Reaper Actions.
If we don't check Reaper Action state, we don't get lights when we should.
On the other hand, we also get some lights when we shouldn't
These buttons might be better served with custom actions rather than the generic Reaper Actions.

Will look into it.

Yup, needs lots of work.

Yes, there is no time display available here so I'll have to do this blind and rely on your testing effort.

I tried to find a way to allow the marker button to latch and allow me to skip thru markers with the rew and ffwd buttons,
Found the toggle Reaper 40868, (which works) but the rew and ffwd buttons on the mcu are not connected to the those on the transport bar in reaper.
So it doesn't work.
Any ideas how to get rew and ffwd to 1. work better, 2. mirror the transport bar?
|
Yeah, this might be doable using the Cycled action, but I would say I need to add a new Action which is a cousin of Cycled that would do this kind of job better.

No crashes today, but still have had a few "loss of control" moments, haven't figured out a cause, but restartin reaper fixes it.
BUT NO CRASHES

Hi,
You probably seen this...thanks azslow.
And I found the file, but its in a weird format. I know I got it from reaper or a csurf SDK? Its English but the formating is all wrong. I know that I used it to tell me what the MCU sends/received.
Its called..

Like Geoff said eariler, in the CSI main config window there are two boxes midi in and midi out, if you tick them, a window pops open with all the midi data. Super handy, you could actually map as you go.

Another day, another question,
This time, the jog wheel
I've tried setting it to reaper 992, and 996.
992 nothing happens, 996 cursor moves to center of view.
But can't get it to just work like a normal jog wheel.
Anyone any ideas?

Hi Geoff tried the new build:
Artist Mix
- no crash at the moment (deleting tracks)
- right correspondence between real surface and reaper mixer
- still have no led update on Master Track SOLO and MUTE (solo always lighted and Mute always off)
- no control on mastertrack SOLO and MUTE: once you have soloed o muted tha mastertrack you have to use the mouse to undo the command.

My master is still over on track one, rather than the dedicated master fader, but shows now on startup,
But I don't think Geoff's addressed that one yet.

Also on my artist Mix the Master Track is on track 1 but I thought this is by design....

Yeah, it's all about the Pinning we were discussing earlier.
It's kind of tricky on an MCU because you don't have a Track Name display on the Master but here's how:
Push ChannelRight until Master in showing on Track 8.
Push ChannelRight once more, Reaper Master is now on MCU Fader 9.
Select Master in Reaper.
Press F7 on MCU to Pin the Master.
Save project.
Now every time you open that project Reaper Master will be on MCU Master.
So, in general, whatever Tracks are selected when you press F7 on the MCU get Pinned.
Whatever Tracks are selected when you press F8 get Unpinned (if they were Pinned).
Saving the project stores these Pinned Tracks, so that when you reload the project the Pinned tracks are still Pinned

Nothing doing I'm afraid,
Using the "Channel LEFT" moves the MASTER over to 8 then another one it's gone, which you would believe would mean it's on 9 (e8 00 00 7f) but it's not.
Now when you pin it in the "beyond" the rest of the faders are now where they should be, but the realSurface Master does nothing, and there is no external control of the reaper master fader.
Even just loading 9 or 10 Reatracks (tracks in reaper) with everything as standard, on the MCU you get, Master on strip 1 then Reatracks 1-7 on strips 2-8. strip 9 (master fader) does nothing and is not in play.

You do have Channels set to 9 in the config dialog, right ?

D'oh!!!
PMSL, yes that made it move,
the only artifact is in the display of strip 1,
top row I have the track name and volume values when I adjust the fader, (as expected)
bottom row MASTER and volume values when I adjust the fader,
which does look a little confusing.

Cool, glad it's working.
Yeah, the Avid Artist Series in Mackie mode has only one display row, so I'll have to rely on you once again for real MCU testing, I'm flying blind here, thanks for your help.

Hey, if all I'm good for is telling you what's not working right for me, at least I'm good for something! lol.
Can't get the setting to stick in a saved project, or as a template,
A fault may lie between the chair and the keyboard.

Seriously, it is invaluable to have someone testing this, thanks again !
I've figured out what is causing the strange display on the second row, and will have a fix tomorrow, tentatively done this way:
There will now be 2 widgets ChannelDisplayUpper and ChannelDisplayLower.
I will put the build up with a template that maps the Track name to the upper and the Volume display on lower, I'll be doing it blind, so you'll have to tell me how it turns out.

Yeah, I knew this Master setup would be tricky with no Select button on Fader 9 of the MCU.
If you are setup to follow MCP, once you have navigated correctly so that Fader 9 controls Reaper Master, select the Master in the MCP using the mouse and then hit F7, then save, that should do it.
If you want to check, exit Reaper and open the .RPP file in a text editor.
Go the the very end and you should see something like ReaperMasterTrackGUID and a bunch of other stuff on a line, that tells you that it is saving to the project file OK.

I'll check that out tomorrow and get back to you,
While we're talking about the display, is there any way to get the pan and width values to display in the lower when they are adjusted?

Last few lines are,
>
<EXTSTATE
<CONTROLSURFACEINTEGRATOR
DEFAULTLAYOUTDEFAULTMCPMAINCU9 ReaperMasterTrackGUID
>
>
>
But master not staying over at 9 when I reopen new saved default project.
But as long as I stay in reaper, any project I open, old or new, the master stays on 9.
Also (not a biggy) when I have everything set out with master saved on 9,
If I select the Master channel in reaper, the signal light of MCUstrip 8 lights up.

Cool, so your layout is named DEFAULTLAYOUT, can you post the Zone, Virtual Surface and Fader names ?

Virtual = MainCU
Haven't added or tackled the XT or C4 yet....baby steps lol.

Can't reproduce that here, the line in your file looks fine, perhaps try Pinning it to another channel as a test.
[Edit] What a sec, I just re-read your edit, this Pinning is on a per project basis.
Is that how you are using it ?

So I open reaper, default project opens, basically a blank workspace with master track.
I then select master and use "single left" on MCU to move it across to "9".
Making sure it's selected in reaper, I press F7 (to pin)
the I add a new track, move it (using single right) so it's at strip/Fader 1.
then deleted track 1, back to blank workspace. (also tried it without this step)
Then I saved the project, as ReaperDefaultMCU9
Now while I still have reaper open, any project I open, new or old, Master is pinned to 9(MASTER)
If I close reaper and reopen, MASTER back on Strip 1, no matter what track i open.
Same results for pinned to 6 7 or 8.

Ok, first check that ReaperDefaultMCU9.RPP has the Master line at end.
Then double click on ReaperDefaultMCU9.RPP and open Reaper that way, see if it makes a difference.

Ok progress,
I've 2 projects saved one with master on 7, one with master on 9
Opening cold from file, everything is where it should be,
Now why does it not do that when opening from inside reaper?

Short answer -- inferior programming on my part
Longer answer -- That's why I'm so grateful for your testing help, different workflows expose different bugs.
My workflow is such that I always open projects by double clicking them.
This causes Reaper to initialize in the project context.
I simply need to fix the bug -- CSI should re-initialize when a new project is loaded.

Fixed, will be in next build.
Needless to say, I didn't get to the pan and lower display row stuff today, because I was working on this.
I keep forgetting to mention, it seems your Bank controls are backwards, you say you use Single Left to move Master to 9, would Single Right feel more natural ?
If so, just edit the MCU.axt file and change the plusses and minuses around to change direction.

I guess it depends on what you view as moving. The window (your view of 8 faders) or the mixer behind the window.
If you were looking at track 1-8 and wanted to move to view tracks 9-16, would you not press the BankRight?
If you were on tracks 1-8 again and wanted to see 3-10 which button would you press?
For moving a selected track it feels total unnatural but I think that's because I'm focused on that track and preciving it to move rather than the whole mixer.

Yup, that's why you can set it either way
You can also adjust the stride -- both single and bank.

New build is up: https://stash.reaper.fm/v/33037/CSI%20pre%20alpha.zip
Loading project should now cause CSI to re-initialize, you should get the correct Pinned tracks for the newly loaded project.
Preliminary Pan and Pan Width display.
As noted, I'm doing the Pan/Width completely blind, no Lower display on the Artist Mackie emulation I'm using here.
Please report your findngs.

Would the modifiers work with it?
ChannelLeft TrackBank -1

YES YOU CAN , although the interesting thing is the screen doesn't show the change until you release SHIFT,
It caught me out and i sent all the tracks to the depths of beyond lol,
Which gave me a future add-on suggestion,
Is there anyway to add a MixerLock so that you can only cycle up to what's on the mixer,
So say you only have one set of 8 faders, then you can set your MixerLock to 8's
If you had 16 faders you could set it to 16s
So with "TrackBank 8" on a project with 35 tracks
On an 8 faders controller (with MixerLock set to 8), rather than the mixer going to infinity, it would only go 1-8, 9-16,17-24, 25-32, 33-40 (35 falls in that set based on 8s)
On an 16 faders controller (with MixerLock set to 8), again rather than the mixer going to infinity, it would only go 1-8, 9-16,17-24, 25-32, 33-40 (35 falls in that set based on 8s)
But on an 16 faders controller (with MixerLock set to 16), it would only go to 1-16, 9-24, 17-32 24-40, 33-48. (35 falls in that set based on 16s)
Basically the set of 8 or 16 or whatever (MixerLock) that the numbered tracks fall into.
Obviously you'd need a way of turning it on and off, otherwise, it would have been impossible for me to place MASTER on track 9, as I was essentially making Strips 1-8 on the MCU negative channels in Reaper.
Going the otherway, it would just be nice to be able to Bank up thru tracks without moving into beyond, the maybe move single a few, then bank down thru and when it got to the start rather than banking beyond the first track, where it might endup on strip4, ReaperTrack 1, would be on Strip 1.
Hope that makes sense.lol

The mixer definitely should be constrained to the track count.
When you think you are lost in oblivion, one click in the right direction should get you back.
If not there's a bug.
Yes you can go all the way to one end or the other but shouldn't be able to go further than that.

When you install the latest build, don't forget to update the .axt files for MCU as well to get the lower display behaviour.

I figured out it was the C4 causing the "beyond-ness",
But I'd written all this before I had the "lightbulb" moment, and I figured I'd keep it here in case someone else has an idiot moment.
I had added the C4 in virtual surfaces at the very start and had plain forgotten about it being there, it's Channels was set to 32,(which I suspect is wrong).
So again the fault lay between the chair and the keyboard

So the 4 banks of 8 where just the 32 virtual strips of the C4. D'oh!
I removed it and everything works as you described.

Yeah, I would definitely uncheck Bankable on a C4, probably set Channels to 0 or 1 depending on how you intend to map it.

While we're on the subject,
What way would you suggest configuring the set up of Layout/Zone/Virtualsurface to allow all FX parameters to be controlled on the C4. On a channel by channel basis.
Further down the line is there a way to have it control all the ins and outs. So if I pressed Global View - Inputs Button (90 3F 00 7f) on the MCU it would show the inputs on the C4 and I could then change them with the corresponding knob?

As for the new build. all going ok, still stops communicating if you go back into config window even just to look.
No values at all on display just name. but also on the good side no MASTER in lower half of strip1.
Also with MASTER Pinned to 9, if you singleR track 1 jumps from strip1 to strip 3. singleL moves it onto strip2, but after that first jump of 2 it moves singly as expected.
Only when Master is Pinned. As the master moved as expected to 9 before pinning.
