How do I fade out volume on MIDI or frozen tracks?

Hi,

I have no trouble using the volume fade out feature on wav sound files (the one where you position the mouse over the top corner of the block, wait for the icon to appear, then move the cursor to the left to fade out from wherever you want).

But how do I do this for MIDI items? I have recorded a few VSTi parts with MIDI and even when I freeze the tracks, Reaper doesn't allow me to use fade outs. Any tips?

I just use CC7 (volume) to fade the tracks out in the Midi Editor.
