pixeltarian : me too, we can do 20+ color schemes if we want once the layout is done.
Having the option to right click and modify the width control is very clever and space saving using one knob.

I agree that the primary goal is to define a final layout, later there can be different color schemes. I really like the approach to the MCP layout and I'm eager to see waht will come in the TCP... maybe for christmas?

Is it possible for WALTER to manage knobs that overlap each other like this:

I mean for the shortest and narrowest MCP or TCP a nested knob like the above could be really useful for the pan and volume leaving a space for the Width (knob or slider)!

I personaly preffer Width to be like on the Addictive Drums mixer... such intuitive for me!

At the moment it's all brilliant wanking material. But apart from a few details it can be done I'd think. Desperately waiting for some Reaper-theme-compatible pngs so Walter can take over and show how close he can get .

This is looking very nice, great work!

For making this theme into a reality, I would like to make a strong suggestion: to develop it as a *theme* rather than as photoshop mockups. It would be much better to get even a limping-along version of, say, a mixer track working, than to have a complete mockup of the entire REAPER UI. Better in many ways: more functional, more useful for other theme developers, and much more useful for anyone working on this theme.

It would be a shame to get a complete mockup of the whole REAPER UI and then realize that some incorrect assumptions were made about what can and can't be done with WALTER. Developing even a small piece of a workable theme would avoid that pitfall.

I think this looks great, now that the smallest size mixer panels have been mocked up.

In doing scoring I often end up with as many as 300 tracks. WALTER so far has brought nothing but larger themes that reduce functionality for the sake of eye candy (like that Imperial business).

I can't wait to see what Brice does with the rest, though, it being a community theme wouldn't it make sense for someone to take on the coding portion so that the the TCP can be designed concurrently to get this thing out into the wild?

True ... but I have "general" knowledge of what's possible and what isn't, and people with more knowledge can quickly jump in and say, this and that won't work based on their experience (and then I'll simply beg the cockos team to add yet one more feature).
I think it's about finding the right balance, you wouldn't start building a plane before doing sketches and finding the right design.

That said, this project being open I wouldn't mind someone joining in and starting working on the WALTER part now that we have a general idea of a layout., even without the proper gfx, but focusing on the layout. I personally don't have the time to do both.

Wish I could be more "with it" but I'm tending to my sick cat (force feedings, constant vet visits, lost sleep for 2.5 weeks and general worrying overload). Hopefully others will step forward to make this a community effort, graphically.

Mockup looks great.

IMHO: I think that now is not the right time to do fine tuning.
We can easily change a fader or some colors when the prototype is ready.
So we should analyze brice's mockup from a functional point of view rather than an aestetic one.
I've already done a variation but after schwa's words i've realized that my work was premature.
We need to put the focus back on the structure maybe with the help of some walter's friends.

Enjoy holydays!

Looking better and better Brice [and all]

now isn't it true that whenever this becomes a real working theme, and anyone who wanted some png element changed [like the fader handles] could do so just by altering the png file for them? I know that is how v3 worked, and I'm assuming v4 with walter does the same with the cavet that one has to keep the size of the pngs for a given walter rtconfig file exactly the same...

If this is NOT true, plz clear me up on it. thanks

; -------------------------------------------
Layout "Divider"

clear tcp.*
set tcp.size [320 20]
set tcp.label w>22 [60 3 66 18 0 0 0 0]
set tcp.label.margin [2 0 0 0]
set tcp.label.color [x x x]
EndLayout ;

clear mcp.*
set mcp.size [16 245]
set mcp.label [0 0 16 500 0 0 0 1]
set mcp.label.color [x x x]
EndLayout

*Note that under the label color for tcp and mcp, I didn't give Walter a specific color, instead I put down x's so that you guys can choose the colors because im not sure what color would look good with OCTAVE.

What do you guys think about this?
if you add

set mcp.extmixer.mode [1]

before EndLayout you have the full height without fx and sendlist on this track.

Hey adXok,

This may not mean much, but I don't know. I would presume though - probably not (yet?). But I'd love to have dual knobs to use in Reaper.
So, +1 from me If I do happen find anything interesting while fiddling around I'll speak up here...

Hey folks,

Though I've just moved house and have only followed parts of this thread - If there's anything I might be able to do (pitch in etc) to help things with Octave here - feel free to let me know. I have a bit of time to spare and a bit of community spirit to share. I could use some practice with all the new also... And Octave looks pretty awesome!

Anyway - just a thought, if can help.

The new multiple docker behaviour in the latest beta could make for some interesting steps towards to the Brice's original mock-ups.

Default Is this a theme thing or not?

Asking here because you guys know theme stuff. Sorry if it's not quite the right thread.

In the arranger view the section has a thicker line making the selection easier to see but in the midi editor its a very thin line. The selection is not as noticeable for me. Is there something I can do to make the selection line thicker or more noticeable or is it a code thing?

Default Octave Waltered first attempt

Using Brice's december 23rd design I made a first attempt to Walter the Octave theme: download here: http://www.box.net/shared/2pbxlllkc6

All layouts in the mixer are basically working except the short mixer layouts that haven't been coded. The rest of the theme is still default V4. To use the theme, pls turn off "show pan controls at top" in the mixer, otherwise it looks kind of funny. Most of Brice's layout could be waltered, some things I have not been able to do, maybe can't be done yet, maybe they can and I just don't know how. A list of problem areas:

-The green color of the track id is hard-coded in the png file, track color only changes the label window not the id window.. if this can't be changed by user perhaps another color would be best.
-The two types of color text for the FX parameter knobs, can only be one color as far as I could see (must be a FR.. the two color feature looks great)
-The value displays of pan and volume are in the mcp_bg.png so pink "anti-stretch" lines had to be drawn, this fixates the height of the mixer panel below the fx and sends (except off course for the maximum height, extended and bit meter layouts as they have no sends/fx on top).. Maybe the value displays can be attached to the pan background in some cases or the volume display can be coded as an overlay of the phase button to alow stretching of the main fader area. I haven't tried that.
-When collapsing the transport bar downwards upto reaching minimal panel state, the green id on top is not aligned when using multiple layouts in same mixer window, there is a gap between some id headers and the transport bar. Funny, this gap is larger in the alfav19 than it was in alfav18.. Have no clue how to solve it so it looks nice, have a feeling it must be possible.. don't know how yet..
-Main mixer looks chaotic.. it is because it hasn't been waltered yet.. oops. Maybe Brice can make a nice master mixer layout??

Furthermore there are many small cosmetic errors that can be fixed, like some buttons if pressed show the V4 default buttons as no active state has been defined in the theme so far. Some buttons and backgrounds look stretched because I didn't bother at the moment looking at pink-lines possibilities for some or take directly the different size buttons from other layouts and put them in the corresponding layout directory. Also the volume faders and pan buttons look rough that is because in The psd file they were attached to the background and there weren't separate fader images that could be used.. so some shadings are wrong etc... Also I think the sends look too crowded.. maybe it's some alignment issue in the pngs I created. Many fonts have white color, they are too bright.. didn't bother with looking for nicer shade at the moment.

All in all has been some tough work to get to this.. but it's fantastic to see what can be done with Walter! hope someone can take it further from here.

Hi Amazed,

Afaik we don't have any control over the appearance for this in the ME to match how it looks in the arrange. Color settings can help, but unless it has been changed since last I've used the Theme editor in Prefs - it may share color settings with the ruler/time lines foreground (numbers and indents etc).

Hopefully there is a way - I'd love to have it looking more matching and a bit easier looking to spot and grab...
