Default sampling 101

ok,i get what a sampler is (sort of), and what it is capable of doing. what i'd like to know is, can i record a short sample of my voice just saying "ahh", and then get it to reproduce all over the keyboard? things like that.

any good articles/reads covering simple stuff like this?

I'm not sure if you have a sampler or not, here's a great place to start and its free...

If you were to check out the manual for this (look for key mapping), you should dig up some good info.

Yes you can do that but I would recommend recording "ahh" from as low as you can go to as high as you can go. You can do it either 1/2 steps, whole steps, or 1-1/2 steps apart. It's just important that you do them all the same so that they will fall into the sampler evenly, however most samplers allow you to adjust each sample.

You can try just recording one "ahh" and spread it out across the keyboard, you might get some interesting sounds, but it has it's limits.

I really don't know, I'm sure there's quite a bit of info out there if you look hard enough. Also visit as many music forums as you can.

This is how you can do the "Ahh sample" using Reaper's sampler:

Good display jnif.

Another important thing to do is turn the Min Vol down to around -60db. That will give you the maximum velocity dynamics.
