I guess the joke is somehow that they kind of annoy (make us grunt) in some way with their releases, but I don't understand why we should be annoyed. Perhaps it is some insider joke based on the features of this release for those that were around since the beginning

Don't want to be the one asking for the explanation of a joke though..

My interpretation is that it's a joke misspelling of disgruntle: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/disgruntle

It is the opposite:

We know "engrave" is confirmation of "grave".
In the same way "engruntling" is stronger than
"gruntling".

And "gruntling" means "being happy", "being delighted".
Example: Dawn: "I'm so totally gruntled today! Not a thing
out of place!" Or: "Oh happy day! Color me gruntled!"

Look here.

Oh didn't know that meaning. Well then it is just a true statement, all these updates are just like little treats for us that keep coming

Actually,

Gruntle is to grunt as sparkle is to spark.
i.e. if you are gruntling you are making unhappy noises.

Disgruntled is not "negative gruntle mode". A very rare and old use of "dis" is as an intensifier, i.e. if gruntled means unhappy, disgruntled means very unhappy.

Sounds like the native English speakers are also not 100% sure what it really means, so no more guilty conscience on my side for maybe missing this vocabulary in the English class.

Everyone is busy figuring out what the tagline means so nobody can give actual feedback to the release, well done Cockos!

Default Bug in new version

I have an issue with the last update (6.38) Few minutes after opening project, Reaper stops playing sound, then I restart it and Reaper resets my UAD plugins and Auto tune to default. I had to downgrade to previous version

Default Not Engruntled

(I don;t think....)

New Ver. v6.38 - October 17 2021 keeps crashing on me (technically "freezing," not actually crashing, but it remains unresponsive and must be shut down) during editing. Particularly when in the MIDI editing window. It's as if too many keystrokes or whatever cause a pile-up of commands and REAPER just freezes, about 3 keystrokes behind where I am.

Never had any issues with any previous builds.

System Specs:

Intel i9 9900K (no overclocking or any tweaking)
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations; Ver 21H1 (10.0.19043 Build 19043)
MoBo: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ULTRA
32.0 GB of 2133 RAM (again, not overclocked or anything)

Never had these issues before with this system, which is a year and a half old, now. So, it feels a lot like an issue with the latest build of REAPER.

If you are experiencing crashes, a crash log would be helpful. Instructions on how to post a crash log are here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=36653

Default Not Engruntled...

I got it to happen again this a.m. (and lost all my edits leading up to it, in the process, but this is what we sacrifice for progress....)

I tried to attach a .zip of the Reaper.DMP file, but the forum says:

"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, if this not the right place, or if there is a better place for me to post about the issue - Bug Reports? - please let me know.

Thanks!

This is a fine place to post. You can put the crash log on a file sharing host somewhere and link to it here, or email it to support at cockos.

Link to Reaper DMP file in Google Drive (full, uncompressed file) below.

FWIW - Bug Recipe:

- Open item - either audio or MIDI - for editing in the TCP (the MIDI editor window for MIDI)
- Edit the item (multiple edits): Move, Change, Insert or Delete portions of audio or some MIDI notes
- Reaper eventually freezes and becomes unresponsive and must be shut down.

Thanks!

Thanks for the dump file... this seems to be a MidiGuitar2 hang. Are you using the latest version of that plug-in?

I've installed their demo but can't reproduce, can you give usa minimal project to reproduce with this? Thanks!

I am using MIDI guitar Ver. 2.2.1 which was the most recent version (I see on their website that I just checked, that they apparently have just released ver 3.0).

I did use MIDI Guitar to get the MIDI data into REAPER. The dump file I sent happened while I was editing, not actually playing through MIDI guitar, just editing the MIDI - BUT the MIDI sounds were apparently still routing through the MIDI Guitar plugin into the soft synth it was triggering.

Maybe if I remember to turn off MIDI guitar as a plugin and have the MIDI track trigger the soft synth directly?

I'll try to create a small project file if I can and maybe it will reproduce the issue.

Thanks!

**Edit: However FYI, we are dealing with my most recent instance of this issue, involving MIDI and MIDI Guitar plugin tracks. The same (or similar) freezing happened shortly after I installed Ver. v6.38, while editing pure audio tracks, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't even an instance of MIDI Guitar on that project.

The dump file provided was almost certainly a hang within MIDIGuitar, if you have a hang without it and can produce a dump file that would be very helpful.
