Is there a how to for Installing IK MultiMedia plugins using Wine?
Has anyone done a new install of plugins or software from IK MultiMedia using Wine?
If you have, can you list out the steps involved and an issues that need to be addressed before hand? If it's same as other plugins or software that needs to be authorize, please feel free to point me to the steps for that instead. :: UPDATE: 02/05/2022 Using Wine-Staging 6.14, I was able to successfully install IK Multimedia plugins and stand-alones for: - Authorization Manager 1.0.26 (needed to activate pre-Product mgr. apps) - Amplitube 3 - Amplitube 4 - Amplitube 5 CS - SampleTank 3 SE - SampleTank 4 SE - SampleTank Editor 2 - Miroslav Philharmonik 2 CE - Syntronik Free - T-RackS 4 CS - T-RackS 5 SE - IK Product Manager 1.0.4 - able to activate all add-ons for any of the above NOTES: - Pre-Product Manager apps can be activated using the old Authorization Manager and your previous activation file if you are on the same machine you originaly activated the app on. - IKM's Product Manager will activate the newer apps, but it will not download any apps or updates. I already had the installers already on hand, but canot update or purchase new versions or add-on items uness they are willing to proved downloads for the new installers. I doubt this wil happen, but you never know. ADDITIONAL: I was also able to install and activate these non-IKM apps as well: - Addictive Drums v 1.57 - Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5 & 6 - Native Instruments Kontak 5 & 6 - Native Intruments free Essentials 5 & 6 Addictive Drums - v1.57 can be activated using the new Activation method. Native Instruments - Native Access It will only activate newer software. If you install on tha same machine you activated older software on, you canyou use the same activation file to activate it again. If you install on a new machine, you will not be able to activate older software. This is unfortunate since I prefere Guitar Rig 5 over Guitar Rig 6, but it is what is. NOTE: You can download the software through native Access, but it will not install, at least it didn't for me. The work around is to find the ISO file it downloaded and extract the installation fiels from it, then run the extracted installer using Wine. ::

Install Wine-Staging 6.14 (do not use 6.15 or 6.16) install Yabridge.
Do not use the IK Multimedia Product Manager as it doesn't work properly. You'll need to go to your products and download the stand-alone installers. These can be found under the Past Releases tab - just choose the latest version listed there. Then run the Sampletank installer, WINE should be automatically invoked (if not right click the file and choose "open with") and it will probably require Wine-Gecko to be installed. Allow this and then follow the normal install routine for IK, IE where you want the VST installed to. In my case I only use VST3 versions so this is simply left to the default Common folder. BTW this is important when using Yabridge as it will not work with VST3's outside of this folder. If you are using VST2's you can place these in any folder you choose. Once that is done, in the terminal run yabridgectl add then paste in the folder path where you placed the VST...what I do is go through the file explorer (in my case Thunar) and then just copy the address in the top bar of the window) so example : yabridgectl add yabridgectl add "/home/denzoid/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3/" (include the quotation marks) where obviously the user name for you would not be denzoid Do the same for the VST2 folder, the run yabridgectl sync and that's it I've probably missed something hahaha! But I'm sure others will correct it Last edited by pax-eterna; 09-23-2021 at 04:04 PM. |

Oh just to add - I do the "offline Authorization" it's (believe it or not) much simpler!
You'll do this when you open the VST for the first time. |

yabridgectl add "/home/denzoid/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3/" or yabridgectl add /home/denzoid/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Common\ Files/VST3/ Enclose the entire path with quotes, or "escape the spaces" (of filenames or directory names) with backslashes, or the commands don't work. Also beware of uppercase and lowercase letters in filenames and directories. They matter in Linux. |

more than 1 sound, I haven't had problems with the other products. They are picky about the order in which they are installed. 'Oldest first' is probably the best route, so that installers of newer apps that can use the older sounds, will be able to find them. I would stick to default locations until all are installed. Later you can move things around, and have the new locations scanned by the top level applications. Good luck, they are excellent products! |

@ pax-eterna
Thank you, very helpful! 1: I have Wine 6.14 installed along with Gecko and Mono, do I need Wine-Staging instead? what are the benefits? 2: I have the original installer files. are you running the Offline Authorization from a Windows PC? @ JamesPeters Thanks for the tip James! @ 4duhwinnn Thanks for the tips! Was planning to install oldest to newest already, but a good tip to know. 1: Is there a guide for configuring the video card? 2: I have all the sound libraries. I thought I could just point SampleTank to the external drive where they are. Will I have to install them all again? ::

@lucas_LCS yes you need to change to wine-staging if you want to use Yabridge. Good idea to make sure you remove your existing WINE versions before running.
Nope, no windows - offline works just as well with Linux Just install the latest authorization manager tool. Good luck |

uniform across their product catalog. What I do, once my copy protected products are installed in wine, is to re-use the .reg files found in .wine/drive_c in subsequent wine installs, and move the new install's default .reg files to a folder default-reg for safe keeping. It's good enough most of the time. It helps to have lots of free contiguous disk space on every drive used for installs, so you never have to remove any big installed, but rarely used sound libs, as that can confuse Native Access, IK's manager, and possibly some IK vpa files won't be scanned correctly. With so many unique setups, it's all experimental, and those who experiment and persevere, get the winnn. Cheers |

I have all my ST libraries on a separate drive, so I do not have to download again
After installing ST itself, and when the the sounds and samples libraries are installed - see note below, just go to settings (the usual cog wheel symbol) delete the C:\ entries (not sure if you REALLY need to do this but I do) and then simply point it to the disk and directory they are in. NOTE: It's important when you are installing the libraries to actually install them to the alternate location you choose. DO NOT simply move them. It won't work. Do not change the structure or the names of anything, again it will not work if you do. |

Found a program was out of date so decided to just download the latest versions for everything.
I have most of the programs loaded and authorized now. I had to use use the Product Manager on 3-4 of them though. It worked well for me, so not sure what pax-eterna was experiencing. This has taken up a lot of time, so I'll have to set up the libraries later, when I have more time. I appreciate all the help, thanks to you both and Glennbo. Special nod to JamesPeters for the Manjaro recommendation. ::

Really glad you got it working...there are some really REALLY good sounds in ST4...I am going to try and use the live mode (with created splits and layers) that can be recalled via MIDI CC. Still having some audio issues (the USB audio suddenly and randomly cutting out) to figure, but once I get that done, it'll sorta kinda be like Cantabile or Gig Performer, albeit minus a few things but enough there to make it useful for gig work. |

Latency Issue Solved
STATUS:
- Amplitube and SampleTank are working ISSUE: - have a noticeable delay playing guitar or a virtual instrument changing settings in Reaper's Audio/Device settings has no affect. I tried changing the following defaults to this: - Samplerate: 48000 - Block Size: 64 - Bit depth: 24 - Periods: 3 I'm using a Behringer UMC204HD. It's selected in Alsa Reaper is using Alsa and the UMC204HD is selected and recognized. Using Manjaro Pahvo 21.1.4 with Kernel 5.13 Do I need to change the Kernel? EDIT: Answer: No Solution: don't use Bluetooth headphones while recording. I use them for listening all the time and threw them on out of habit. It finally dawned on me after making this post. I switched to the HD280s and everything was fine. ::

I just setup my new PC.
I copied over my Wine and VST3 folders to my home folder. Setup the paths in Reaper 6.38 Reaper sees and loads all non VST3 plugins without issue, but doesn't see anything in the VST3 folder. I verified path is correct and the Yabridge SO files are there. The VST3 files show up fine in Reaper 6.36 on my old PC anyone know what the issue might be? I'm using: Manjaro Linux Reaper 6.38 Wine-staging 6.14 Yabridge Also, can someone point me to a guide on making a portable install in Linux? :: Yabridge

.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3/ and whatever that path is needs to be set once in Yabridge so it knows to look there. |

Yabridge sync then creates the files needed in the /.vst3 folder The files are there and the /.vst3 path is set in Reaper. The plugin cache was cleared and the paths were rescanned. It is the same on my old DAW using the same version of Manjaro, Wine-Staging and Yabridge. The only difference is the old DAW uses Reaper v6.36. If I could create a portable install on Linux, I would try 6.36 on the new DAW to see if it's Reaper issue, plus I prefer a portable install for backup purposes. EDIT: I just realized the old DAW is using Yabridge v3.5.2 and the new is using v3.6 ::

UPDATE:
I uninstalled Reaper 6.38 and installed Reaper 6.36. Issue is still there. I added the "/home/MyUsr/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3/" path to reaper, but that didn't help. Will work on reverting to Yabridge 3.5.2 to see if that helps. ::

I added that path as a troubleshooting step.
Still not showing up. robbert (yabridge) said definitely don' use that path, it will cause issues. Now, the weird thing is, after I removed that path from Reaper and rescanned, the VST3 plugins are showing now. Not sure why now, but woot! Sad news is, this may be the end of the line for IKMM and me. Custom Shop has stopped working because my version is out of date. I unable to update it or any of the newer plugins through the Product Manager. When I try, the Product Manager locks up or hangs and nothing happens. IKMM does not appear to let you download the executables for the newer stuff. Glad I caught before I joined the group buy. I can still use the products I already have, so I'm happy about that. ::
