item mute darker than track mute?
If I have a track muted, and an item on it is unmuted, but I want to mute it, i can't tell that the mute has worked visually, since the item mute color treatment is exactly the same as the track mute treatment. Ideally these would multiply for me, so that muted items on muted tracks would appear darker than unmuted ones. If I could just make item mute darker than track mute, I'd definitely settle for that, but ideally, they'd overlap making it darker, if you know what I mean.
If anyone knows a way I can get something like this, that would be sweet.

You could display the mute button on each item, that should make it clear. Options, Prefs, Appearance, Media. (either above or on the items,as you wish).

Good suggestion, but unfortunately the mute button often isn't visible depending on zoom level/track height.

There's an option in prefs to modify this. Prefs, Appearance, Media items, set Hide butons when height lesss than 10 pixels, and disable Draw labels above item.
That should do it ...
