Default Drawing in midi with keyboard

I find it a pain to double click or click and drag midi notes in piano roll for addictive drummer. Does anyone know how to just hover the pencil over the grid and hit a key on the keyboard? I’m trying to assign a key in actions but I can’t find the action. Anyone know the hookup on this?

Yes. Place your mouse where you want the note to appear and then press the insert key (Ins) on your keyboard. The grid size will determine the length of the inserted note.

I have a mac. There is no "INS" key. Is there a replacement? can I just assign a key in the actions? Whats the name of the action?

A little research suggests that the equivalent on a MAC to the Ins key is Fn+Enter or on an older MAC, fn+i.

"Edit: insert note at mouse cursor"
