Default start recording during playing back other track

Hi,
I want to accomplish this trivial task:

1. mp3 music track is inserted and I recorded a sax on second track.

want to do some corrections. So, I split my sax track. Removed couple of bars that I want to replay.

2. If I place the cursor from the deleted start point I can play over the deleted space and it will continue to "destroy" the rest on the track until I will hit stop recording.

3. Ideally, I would like to predefine the spot for recording - just that was deleted.

Then I want to place cursor couple of bars prior to recording point and stop recording at the end of the selected for recording point automatically.

Doable?
Please step by step. Newb here and every missing easy-know point will create additional confusion.

Thx.

looks like my question is stup..
inserting the additional track will be probably the answer to my question.

Anyway, after I thought about the new track as a solution... May be there is an option to do what I asked. Probably, much more clicks and knowledge...

step 1: RTFM

there are actually a few different ways of doing this. this is one.

so instead of deleting the bars that you want to replace, after you split that segment into a separate item, leave it there and make sure it is selected.

If you right click on the record button, you will see the record mode options. select the option "auto punch selected items".

Now when you record, only the selected item(s) will be replaced.

1 splited
2 the part to redo is selected

now, I have to place a cursor few bars before the selected area for being ready with the horn to start playing into selected spot. Isn't when I will move the cursor few bars prior the split selection, the record function (even with punch in) will wipe those few bars that were not selected?
Thx.

tried it... sure record on the same track starts from the cursor placement.
and it wipes out previously recorded (not selected during split) part.
NO GOOD.
So I had fun with "repairing" wrong places with split, then recording on a new track.
Probably, the simplest and knows by everyone beside me thingy...

Perhaps when you 'moved the cursor a few bars prior' you clicked on the actual prior item (thus selecting it) rather than clicking on the ruler (which would leave the original selection intact)?

Thanks. Will try that tomorrow.
Because if it will work it should be the best solution for fixing.

Default Auto punch time selection

-I have been using this a lot. Super Easy.
-Select the record mode "auto punch time selection" in options menu
-Record arm the track
-Select to portion of time you want to record with a time select (by left click and drag in the ruler area)- you don't have to cut the item first.
-Place the time line where you want to start to listen to play back (pre roll) and hit record
It will punch in and out at the time selection and leave everything before and after untouched.
-There are settings under options >new recording that overlaps existing item
where you can choose the behavior: create a take, trim item behind new recorded item, or create separate time in separate lanes (layers), I don't recommend this last one. Or you trim out the part you don't want beforehand like you did before, then time select that area as described above. Try this, it is real easy and works well. Have fun.

Thanks Johnny and all.
Will try. Too much for today...
Just did a final track with adding correction on additional tracks.

But your advises may simplify even more.

Thanks again.
