Default Auto Punch Not Working

When I create a time selection, set to Time Selection Auto Punch, and start the transport, recording begins immediately, instead of waiting for the time selected region. It also continues recording past the end of the time selection, until I manually stop recording. I've tried doing these steps in every different order, and even rebooted Reaper. Nothing helps. Does anyone know what is occurring and how I can fix it?

Is there possibly any setting in Reaper, or my computer that would cause this? Incidentally, I'm also unable to create a Region on my time line. Any clue there, or connection??

Thanks for that. I’ll look into lice cap, but short of getting that, do you have any thoughts on the issue? Is it something you, or someone else experienced, what the issue was, and how it was solved?

It's a very unusual problem I found only this thread

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=236478

I would try reinstalling reaper and maybe reset the preferences back to defaults. If you don't have defaults you can always do a portable install and back up those preferences and restore them for testing.

I don't recall anything that wasn't user error. Having the LOCK enabled in main toolbar is a common one.

I don't think you've said if it was more than one project having this problem

reinstall is super fast, safe and easy, just install on top of the current one.

Would you humor me and tell me the steps in the re=install process. You said I don't need to remove the current version. Do I simply download Reaper and install, as if I were downloading an update?

unless the install was corrupt somehow (rare) I don't see reinstalling making any difference. All settings and preferences will be the same.

Successful re-install, I assume. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the Auto Punch malfunction problem. Incidentally, I'm still unable to create a Region either......

EPICSOUNDS, what would you recommend that I do?

I have never used LICEcap, so I'll need to install it and give it a try.
There is really no mystery to what I'm doing. I'm dragging out a time selection on the timeline, putting a track in record mode, putting the record button in Time Selection Auto Punch mode, setting the start time back about 4 measures before the time selected area, and pressing the record button. Immediately, I can see that that a new recording is being made, prior to the time selection punch-in point, and it keeps recording past the punch out point until I stop it. In other words, it behaves like it's in standard record mode.
I also think it's worth mentioning ( as I did earlier ), that I'm unable to create a Region either. When I right click the time selection, the 'create region...' is greyed out. Hitting short cut, Shift R, does nothing either. I mention this, thinking maybe there's a connection

What is your operating system, cpu, ram etc. I'm not the guy but there are lots of guys here that if they have lots of info can figure out what is going on, that's why I suggested a licecap so they could see more of what is happening.

I checked your cpu and it benchmarks at around 6500 which is what my 980x did 12 years ago. I have upgraded in the last 5 months to a 7950x what benchmarks at 63000. So, while you definitely can do a lot with reaper (I made 3 albums on the old cpu), I would probably freeze my tracks as I go along. I still freeze them just to keep the cpu usage low.

I've made a LICEcap Gif, but I'm unsure whether it's attached.

I'm shown making a time selection, arming the record button to Time Selection Auto Punch, selecting a start point on the time line, then starting. I forget to put the track in record, and receive a notification, then put the track in record and hit the record button. You can see that it immediately starts recording before the time selected area on the selected track, and keeps recording past the end of the time selected area until I stop it, In other words, it's behaving like normal record, rather than Time Selection Auto Punch

Ok....I'm losing patience....apparently I can't include the Gif without a SECURITY TOKEN

I created an account on Postimages.org, and the site is unresponsive. I'm getting worn down..... Isn't LICEcap a cockos.com product? Why would I need to use a 3rd party site to post a Gif created by LICEcap, to Reaper??

You don't need an account just click the upload button and point to your file. It's just how I do it.

Not sure what the problem is. I've been using this site weekly for the last 5 years with zero problems and just test it and of course it works as normal for me. I click upload point to my file it gets loaded and then I select the hot link for forums, copy that and paste it in the forum and it displays the image.

I'd bet on it.
I think you accidentally disabled the option to link loop points and time selection. Check this: Options > loop points linked to time selection.
