The PO's can send and receive clock, so can Norns. The T-APE cant send or receive I think, but tempo can be set internally.

I've asked for a simple send or receive via USB in a firmware update.

But yeah, no syncing of any sort in this, just counting the rhythm on the T-APE and manually starting the PO's. T-APE is going into Norns audio in, which is zero latency, but I'm using a hacked script on Norns to get audio in thru USB via the Zoom H5, which is what the PO's are plugged into. Norns USB audio has a latency I had to manually try and compensate for The easiest way round it was making sure I started both drum machines at the same time

Next time I'll clock it all via the BSP or something.

I hereby claim the World Record for procrastination! Did my first EVER live streaming gig on FarceBook on Wednesday night.

Wednesday Session May 12th 2021.

Anyone think they can beat that?

I'm gonna do some procrastinating today. Maybe tomorrow too.

Shit, I can't believe we're already halfway thru the year I swore I would get all my shit done and I haven't even started. Just took that gov't bonus, bought a bunch of gear and played with ReaLearn for roughly 5.4732 months...

At this rate I'm gonna have to suicide by mexican jumping beans just to get one final dance number in before I die. I'll be sure to live stream that.

WOT!? Are you suggesting that finishing 3 albums of unfinished songs in 6 months all by myself is not a reasonable goal?!? Why, I never...

Well the MIDI feedback is amazing and ultra-fine-tuneable, so I redid all my controllers using that and now it's a right space ship in here! Lights be blinkin! Knobs and faders surround me, begging to be used for actual music making...

Beatstep for some global/track knobs and toggles.
9 Pages of TouchOSC controls...Track Inspector, EQ, VCA, Send Fx parameters for all my favorite reverbs and delays, transport, synths, guitar plugins all mapped and responding to changes in realtime.
Launchpad X for clips, (still WIP feature that I'm not supposed to talk about...)
LaunchControlXL for more live param tweaking of my 8 "starter" tracks.

ReaLearn's super dope, check it out!

I guess the reason I went so deep into it was because I had a generic synth setup, but had to make a lot of comprimises to work with different synths as far as each having different numbers of increments and responding differently to the same control etc. With ReaLearn, they can each be set up perfectly and switching between them is seamless.

I don`t think so - ya gotta be in it to win it...

And let`s face it, you really ARE pretty damn prolific if you think about it. All good stuff, too. Forgot to mention this before...

On my part, it`s down to mechanics.
I have been putting off starting to repair a broken Oberheim keyboard I bought a month or so ago...

Leaning up against a filing cabinet in the studio for so long it`s becoming invisible to me already.

I am procrastinating from using this thread.

One track very close to being finished as of this last few weeks, and a video in the works for it, partly/mostly done.

Bought an official E-Bow tho! So thats a thing. Downside is, I also bought a controller to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on a Dreamcast emulator!

Next Sunday, hoping to report back with a new track done.

EDIT: Thanks to Zeekat for the procrastination call out, you had a point

@mxd - Dude, are you unaware of the Tony Hawk Remake? They combined the first 2 games and remade them. For PC too. I mean I like dicking around with emulator settings as much as the next nerd, but just thought you should know...

Yeah, I know, this all works straight off the bat with no emulator fiddling tho. Just slap it all on an sd card or ssd and let it boot up. No doubt I'll give the PC version a go when I move on to THPS3. I've never had a controller before, and THPS on a keyboard is too unintuitive. I think I tried this with the remake and obviously gave up on that idea

The RPi is a great emulation machine. Also got Wipeout sequels on the PSP emulated, so thats another nostalgia trip (I only played 2097 on the original PS1). No fiddling, just dump the roms on the sd card and reboot. Recallbox is the emulation thing I'm using. Carries BIOS for all consoles etc up to just before the PS2 I think?

Im not much of a gamer these days, but THPS2 was a clear addiction for me circa 2000ad

Having it on the RPi means Im not stuck at this PC all day. I can turn 90 degrees to my left and play on a different computer instead

Besides, isnt fiddling with settings your love these days? ;P

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up tho! Good call.

Just call me Fiddlesticks. But yea I guess emulation has come a long way since I was really into it.

I was always looking for ways to optimize the gfx tho and ended up fiddling more than anything else. I can't play games with a keyboard and mouse either. Just awful.

FPS were my usual game. Counter Strike I have ploughed so much time into. Mouse and keyboard is the only way to play those. But Tony Hawk's, controller or nothing.

I've heard similar things about Dark Souls, that it needs a controller, so maybe I'll play that at some point now. Rocket League too.

The emulator thing has all the settings to fiddle with, but I've just got it set to increase the resolution and nothing else atm.

I can't even play FPS with mouse and kb. I need my discontinued Steam controller for everything, even web browsing. It's pretty amazing if you can get used to it. Really hope they'll make a new version some day.

I remember that coming out. I was very interested, but not being a general controller user, I didnt bother (money has always been very scarce until recently, so never any spare cash for such things).

Rumours are that Valve have a lot of new hardware on the way so you maybe in luck!

EDIT: Also, traditionally only ever playing CS/CSS/CSGO, and L4D and L4D2, controllers were pointless. My back and shoulders wont allow endless competitive online FPS any more tho.

Yea I bought the Steam controller because I love customization, but I actually was having a lot of back and shoulder pain from using the mouse. It was a total lifesaver. I even do some light mixing with it sometimes.

But I think it can be just as quick as kb + mouse, even in shooters:

Gyro is well suited to aiming up and down and swiping L+R on the thumbpad can have momentum, so a really excellent way to turn around quick without sacrificing any precision.

My solution was this - https://www.kensington.com/p/product...h-scroll-ring/

and a proper chair, and giving up CS I'd got sick of games anyway, too much of a waste of time, and as CS cannot be played casually, or with a trackball, it was time to move on. Oh, and no broadband either, so literally unplayable.

THPS I can pick up and put down at any point tho. Very casual

CSGO just cannot be played with a controller. Competitive FPS with a controller is just a non starter against kbd/mouse.

EDIT: Im back on broadband now, have been since just before xmas, but I'm avoiding CSGO as long as I can

So, fuck, I just noticed that it's been a whole year since I posted anything on SoundCloud.

Will fix that by end of month. Might even shoot for a brand new track. Seems I'm writing less the more gear I acquire...go figure.

Time to use this thread for business.

May I humbly suggest a baby steps set up? Have a basic demo done by the months end? Just some drums and a groovy bassline or something?

I'm currently on version 3004 of the track I'm trying to finish. Its taken about a year plus so far

EDIT: Maybe we should rename this thread the Dembo Being Patronising thread

Well drums in a groovy bassline is always a good start. But if it's any good I'll also have a lot more after only a day or two. Stuff starts dragging out more in the later stages, making it hard to know when to stop.

I'm digging through some old starts to see if anything grabs me tho and maybe there's something I can just give a shove over the finish line...we'll see.

Mainly I'm just looking to stop fiddling and get back to writing, cause it's been too long and I'm missing it. Either way I mean to post something at a good "sharing place," finished or not.

It's a good start I guess.

I'm all geared up but have no desire either. I think it's getting too warm and also too much sun. Give my winter misery back!

@fox...

Another patronising tip from me :

Grab the track you wanna have something done with by the end of the month and write a list of things to do. Break it all down to baby steps in that list. For example, looking at the list I have for the track Im currently focused on, one item is "1 minute 38 secs, add a drum fill that works with the bass line".

Means I dont listen to a track and just get lost in swimming around with so much to do and get overwhelmed by it all. Once I get that drum fill done, I get to cross it off the fucking list and have a slight sense of achievement.

Another example. I was getting a lot of clicks in the latest track, so getting rid of those went on the list. A couple of track renders/freezes later, I found where the errors/clicks were and some quick editing of the resultant wavs, and the song is click free and less of a headfuck to listen thru and I get to cross this fucker off the list and upload a new, better version of the demo

I'm sure you know all this already but just thought I'd procrastinate by detailing a working method I have instead of actually working

I posted this before, but I'm only just getting round to watching it! I dont like his music, or even really what he ends up doing with the DAW, but I still think there are some nice conceptual approaches here that can make it easier to bang something out, applicable to many types of music.

Would be nice to be in an actual band on account of having a single instrumental responsibility. Just thinking of making the next tune all by myself again makes me dead tired. Sitting back and listening to the finished thing is rewarding, but would be really cool to have some actual talents making the process smoother.

Yeah I could totally see myself just getting orders barked at me and playing bass or something. Or the triangle maybe.

Yeah. Agreed.

I tried a few times, but the people I knew were people who suffered similar musical problems to me, and on top of that, werent communicators or down with regular arrangements. Kinda made things impossible, so I've always gone back to working on my own, and doing it all myself. Slow progress.

This is also why I bought hardware kit tho, and tried to bring a little automation to everything, so that only having one pair of hands can do more at once.

I'm still doing too little tho
