Default ffmpeg.zeranoe.com closing down, does anyone know where to get new shared ffmpeg libr

As notified here https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/:
Quote:
ffmpeg.zeranoe.com will close on Sep 18, 2020, and all builds will be removed
I was trying to grab the latest shared windows build, but got 404:ed when selecting "Shared" instead of "Static", and clicking "Download Build". So it seems that some parts of the website may have closed already...

Does anyone know where the latest shared windows builds of ffmpeg are available? All links I can find link to zeranoe.

Everything is fine here: https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
What version do you need and what OS?

What does it mean for all of us?

If I select "Shared" and then click Download, I get 404'ed.

Are you saying this does not happen to you?

The full message reads:
Quote:
ffmpeg.zeranoe.com will close on Sep 18, 2020, and all builds will be removed. If you're using Zeranoe FFmpeg Builds in your product, please ensure that you have a hosting strategy in place by the 18th. Thank you to everyone who supported the project along the way!
So we can hope that it gets hosted someplace else.

But my problem now is that I cannot DL the shared ffmpeg library, the one that includes the dll's, only the ffmpeg.exe. And I need the dll's for Reaper, right?

Right...?

Ah! Pilot error... sorry.

I did not change the default version. Selecting 4.3.1 at the top it works. Thanks.

Default Unfortunately, I think this has happened for real.

zeranoe.com doesn't exist at all right now -- anything under it fails to resolve. I expect at some point it'll be picked up by a domain squatter, but if they host any binaries I'd worry about them being full of malware.

Upstream ffmpeg still has two sites it links to, but both only have static executables and no DLLs:

https://github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases
https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/

I'm stuck with a project to render, but my only installation that's set up with a copy of ffmpeg on a desktop machine at a place where I'm not.

Perhaps it's time to boot into Linux? Not sure of options otherwise.

Sure.

It was just that I tested your link and it took ages to get the DL. So I thought I'd do the community a favor...

Oh yeah, the speed is pretty low. Only 100 kb/s here.

All right, it's not so bad. Now there are two builds for Windows (took from ffmpeg official site):
https://github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases
https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/

Okay guys, I'm not very familiar with video, could you explain what these "Builds" are for and how you use them?

sorry but neither of these are the right versiosn for reaper

you need 'shared' 64-bit

OTTVerse is hosting this version, and I've been in contact with them about also hosting the mac build.

https://ottverse.com/ffmpeg-builds/

Install
- extract zip
- open bin folder
- copy .dll files into reaper UserPlugins folder.

There is no mac version that I can find right now

reaper comes with a minimal version of ffmpeg. With full version we can write h.264 video files on windows.

The static build is FFMPEG as an exe for use with command line
the shared build is for developers and has the .dll /dylib files included.

Hm, I don't see any stable version here. The last one from Zeranoe is available through Fabian or Web Archive link.

It's unclear to me what files to copy since they are named oddly:
avcodec-58.def
libavcodec.dll.a

avformat-58.def
libavformat.dll.a

avutil-56.def
libavutil.dll.a

swscale-5.def
libswscale.dll.a

Do I need both or just the '.DLL.A' files?
Do I copy as-is or do I need to remove the 'A at the end?

[EDIT:] Nevemind. I found them in the 'BIN' folder.

I'm sorry. I thought it was build for Windows only. Well maybe the last build is available via Web Archive?

OK I've been struggling with this for a couple of hours - hope this helps someone else...

Here is a working archive.org link for the ffmpeg 4.3.1 release:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200916...n64-shared.zip

I tested the latest ffmpeg-20200831-4a11a6f-win64-shared build but it wouldn't render H264 video with AAC audio, so don't bother with that one.

This link should list all the archived versions of the 64 bit shared builds:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200918.../win64/shared/

You can get it from here:
https://github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases

Which is also where `scoop install ffmpeg` gets it from:
https://github.com/ScoopInstaller/Ma...et/ffmpeg.json

yep I posted the same :-)

Pay attention to use the 4.1.3 and not the latest. Why? Because when you export a mp4 with audio AAC and you send that video on Whatsapp, the video will be muted. no audio.
While with the 4.1.3 everything is working fine

To add on that... 4.3.1 and 4.3.0 do not work with rendering mov/mp4 with mp3 as audio format. And people have had other issues with 4.3.x that were solved by 4.2.x.
