Schwa posted an animated gif on the stash in which he showed native area selection.

You wont find it, only the chosen ones saw it, but what you can is go to general forum, The ultimate guide to Reaper topic and find "SOME" clues there

I'm going straight to r/choosingbeggars for this lol, but I really pray it's not based on Time Selection as shown in the now-hidden GIF...or at least have that as a (sort of useful) option, but by no means should replace the historically-tested beloved behaviour of Draw A Box.

If we can set it via script, or simultaneously with TS, - we can just hide time selection))

I think the connection with TS is good. A lot of functions already work with TS.

BTW thanks vitalker!

hmm! i have not seen the gif, but time selection is a full height rectangle/square
The only thing i am concerned and hope they can have in consideration if this is going to be reallity is:

1) hope they consider area selection as a mode with it's own context of modifiers (stretch , level up , offset , etc) since they usually don't like to invest so much in GUI buttons like top, bottom, top-left, bottom-left, top-right, bottom-right on the mouse overed area selection to use this same functions

2 ) like in cubase in version 4 or 5 they added simple version with single area selection, but then they scaled to multiple area selections which personally is not very necessary for my personal needs unless they set area selection with it's own context of modifiers/or buttons as referred in 1): stretch , increase, decrease , offset , etc; in which case would be really useful/interesting multiple area selections

and to dream a lot Would love to see this combined with macros (ranges of values set per parameter automation lanes and also for osc/midi learn: (0-127) , (30-100) and also ( 1, 30-100, 127)

-> deeb autoslaps!

Time selection can be a bit tricky to be used as area selection unless they consider it as a mode, because to define an area , in my case (and how I setted the modifiers) I need to find an empty space in project and drag. I dont know other way without Messing with normal operations and limited for future if they consider more functionality like I described in my latest post. Anyway. It's my opinion.

Vitalker I use every little feature and trick haha thanks . I mean't I'm bumping the Feature Request, as a whole, because it was getting buried again in the forum.

And OMG the easter egg! Looks like it's independent of Time Selection which is amazing.

^ which is essential. time selection should select time, as the name suggests!

and man, i stared at that easter egg for ages without seeing it... same with the guide screenshot. schwa, you shrewd fellow, you're like a cat burglar who is compelled to leave a calling card

ready to test aggressively over here, it's a rainy week and i need to rest my back after moving a mountain of mulch, so let's do it

I am not sure, because there is no animation. On the gif it was shown that time selection is used to select particular parts of AS, so it's unknown yet.

Definitely agree there would be a place for both of them -- if you have time selected, modifier-clicking on the individual tracks would "Area Select" those tracks could be a great workflow. Seems like what that GIF was showing anyways.

Not a replacement for Draw A Box at all, but luckily that new easter-egg pic looks like we could have both!

Don't want to get too excited yet, but this will be life-changing for those of us doing deep edits and duplication.

Justin/Schwa - I will put my money where my never-shutting-the-eff-up-about-this mouth is, and beta test the living snot out of this <3

I really think this is related... Now that the X seems like is being taken some attention/care, allow us to select multiple envelope lanes and delete. Also reorder them.
And if possible make tracks and envelopes lanea share same shortcut to delete them.
