With the moral support of FoxAsteria's deadline thread I finally managed to make a track with my forgotten Hohner surf superstrat guitar. Considering the skint presence of this thing on the wide internet, it might be a first piece of music made on that thing, ever. I feel historic.
The guitar's loaded with extremely low output lipstick pickups, I used it in ony way I could - the wrong way (there's a hi gain section or two). I have no skill or want to play surf or cowboy music anyway. Used public domain tanpura and tabla samples from freesound, rest is me.

Dig the clean guitar tone. Nice riff based phrasing too with the bass, drums and guitar. Guitar sounds really good to me and it sounds like you have that Jeff Beck wiggly wham bar thing down.

Enjoyed this! The first clean solo was reminiscent of Pat Metheny for me. In fact, a lot of this reminded of Metheny/Mays. A lot of creativity/timbre throughout.. nice recording/mix!
[QUOTE=zeekat;2190791]Yeah, I like some bar wiggling. This one's not quite dive-bombing compatible though. Will mod with a graphite/teflon nut at some point.
Here's youtube for posterity (no lipsticky Hohners on youtube at all):
So you just slap the wham bar and get off of it to get that ultra fast Jeff Beck wiggle effect. The thing you do at 2:37 is the one I'm referring to. Thanks for posting the vid. I gotta try that with my Strat.

Yeah, it's the Floyd Rose flutter trick basically, was delighted to discover it works on this trem too. Needs pretty responsive and springy floating trem.

If it's floating, it will probably work. Speaking of dive bombing, we play Lonely Boy by the black keys, I use my strat whammy bar for that intro - amazingly I can half-way pull it off and the strat doesn't go out out tune.
@Zeekat, nice job on all of the above, keep up the great work!

That's a lot of pitch drop! I checked and it's definitely doable on a FR, but of course those guys do it with some pitchshift/whammy pedal. Probably wouldn't be caught dead with hopelessly unfashionable FR guitar

Yea, no doubt. I didn't want a pedal taking up space for a single song. Doing it manually isn't perfect and I don't quite always get to a full octave but going that far on a strat with standard tremelo and being able to play the rest of the song in tune, is pretty smokin.

Nice instrumental. I like the airy breezy style and your guitar solis!
For my taste the last solis have a little too much reverb - but that's
just my taste.

Hmmm. Mine is a 100% stock 2012 American Standard Stratocaster that I bought as an investment instrument I could use while it accrues additional value. I'm guessing that ain't floating then? I had a Kramer with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo, but I hated it coz I couldn't do palm mutes and not push it slightly flat from the weight of my hand. Caveman drummer and all.

If american standard and above, it isn't vintage, and if it isn't vintage it's likely floating like mine - but you may have to adjust the posts up a tad because people tend to flatten the bridge against the body; which I hate if I plan on using the tremolo - even my 1983 strat is floating - it now has a Fishman but it's really just the same thing with piezos in it...

So how come you have them flat? Fender setup guide recommends 1/8" gap between the back of the bridge and the body, which puts the whole thing at an angle, puts the saddles parallel to the body and allows room to upbend.

I mean flat and touching the body not flat as in angle. As far as angle... I keep it level/parallel to the body and don't care what Fender suggests - it works better level.

Cool. Thanks for the pics. My Strat has a two screw tremolo just like your very first pic. Gonna have to get it out tomorow and play around with it. I keep that one in it's case in the closet so it will remain in pristine condition along with a 1933 Gibson L-00 that was my dad's guitar in the 30s when he was a kid.
