My expected use was, if you like, for you minimise the script to a toolbar, then to click on palette cells to apply that colour to selected tracks as the means to do your manual color coding.
The random apply thing is there more as an easy way to browse through how the palettes would look in use. A number if users have said they really enjoy using it to do a 'change of scenery', particularly between the cool and warm palettes, as part of their working day (which is nice) but I freely admit that wasn't part of my thinking in making the functionality.
