Default Negative Playrate Values

The feature that convinced me to switch from Cubase to REAPER is the playrate control... i had developed a technique of resampling a stem track to do varispeed tricks (chipmunk/zappa vocals, etc.), then thought about getting a very expensive wordclock unit that could do sample rates in between the standard rates (44.1, 48, etc., etc.)... then i found REAPER, which made the process so simple and easy...

now, to do reverse tracking, the process is similar to how i used to do varispeed tricks... the easiest thing to do would be to reverse a stem track, record the part over the stem track, reverse both parts back to forward and remove the stem track... as far as i know this is the standard way to do reverse tracking in the digital domain...

BUT, if the playrate was able to go into negative values, that would make the process as easy and intuitive as the playrate control has made varispeed tricks... a playrate value of -1 would be the same as reversing a stem...

any thoughts?
