OK
I set the track to All Channels
Clicked the main Rec button in the transport/mixer section
PLayed noted in the keyboard ... no MIDI events were recorded
I also double clicked on the track data area to bring up the virtual keyboard.
Clicking on the keys does play the VI, BUT doing so while recording STILL does not result in MIDI events being recorded.
