Yes I understand that, I'm not sure this is the best way for it to work, though. And apparently someone else also found this behavior unusual, or maybe even unwanted. I found a preset in the video processor "Apply track FX only where track has video items", which when put last in the FX chain stops the behavior.
So now I have that preset on ALL tracks. It works, but maybe there could be a more elegant way to achieve this (what is to me, more reasonable) behavior. Maybe a project setting?
