Ram allocation Win vs Linux -

I remember a few years ago I had a little trouble with the 'swappable' ram in linux. (the allocation was too high - I lowered it and that fixed it) I imagine not enough might trigger reboot maybe - my last idea might be that the VRAM chips on the mobo might be getting a little warm (right next to the cpu) adding a little fan on it.
If your windows is running real quiet, it seems to point to power/heating management.
