Yeah, isn't that interesting.
It seems fair to phrase it as you did: from the perspective of the analog gear ahead of the interface, recording into a Firestudio you would want resultant RMS peaks around -18 dBFS, where you want them at -10 dBFS on the Firestudio Mobile.
Put another way, a signal at 0 dBu (the analog "sweet spot" in the generalized, oversimplified sense) coming into the FS registers as -18dBFS, and coming in at 0 dBu into the FSM registers at -10dBFS.
(This distinction mattering only the analog gear ahead of the converter, of course, and any analog-simulating plugins you might use, etc etc, see long thread above...)
