I like the idea of both preserving, yet muting, a MIDI note on the right of a split. Very clever.
How about these options in Prefs > Editing Behavior:
When splitting a MIDI Item:
1.) Split note
2.) Split note, mute right note
3.) Split note, delete right note
4.) Split note, mute left note
5.) Split note, delete left note
6.) Split note, mute both left & right notes
7.) Delete note under split
