If you could load a zone file back in and it would populate the cells accordingly, then it would the be the full package.
Also the zone files would be easily shared. Very very small file sizes.
I think, if you think of the configure as an app, a lot of the perceived issues about saving paths and maintaining paths across platforms becomes less important (if at all) between users.

Yup, exactly, the Configurator is an app that reads and writes to/from known locations across platforms. This facilities sharing/troubleshooting/etc.
