I'm of the opinion that a head tracker would be most effective if the HRTF was well matched to the listener first. I haven't bothered finding one because I've yet to find a convincing HRTF.
Waves NX coloured the sound too much for my liking and didn't provide a very convincing image despite many hours of testing and tweaking it's settings.
