Split MIDI clip sometimes retains elements of the unsplit clip

Sometimes, when I split a MIDI Clip, then open it in the MIDI Editor with the "Source beats" view, the clip contains notes from the preceding clip (and the the beats timeline starts from the preceding clip):

-- the red clip should be empty
-- note the position of the Edit cursor
-- it looks like the split clip is retaining some of the properties (start position, contents) of the unsplit clip

Other times, it works as expected (see the blue clip):

Maybe I'm wrong DarkStar but in this case you're using 'Source beats' and the 'source' originally has those notes length, if you use `Project beats' this doesn't happen.

If you want to use 'Source beats' then you should enable "Allow trim of MIDI items when splitting" in Preferences/Media/MIDI to get what you need.

Thanks you for your reply, Mercado_Negro,

That Preference is set here. But I get inconsistent results. Sometimes it trims, sometimes it doesn't.

I can't reproduce it if I enable that option. It'd be great if you give us a project where this happens.

I've worked out (I think) how to recreate the problem: Split the clip from right to left.

In this example (the project is attached):
-- I have copied the clip on track 1 to tracks 2 and 3 and recoloured the copies
-- on track 2, I split the clip at the markers, in the order AA, BB, CC then DD
-- on track 3, I split the clip at the markers, in the order BB, AA, DD then CC

If you open the 2nd or 4th clips:
-- on track 2 they are OK (the apple green clips),
-- on track 3 they show the problem (the pink clips).

Retested in v4.32:

It now doesn't seem to matter in what order the splits are done.

Each split clip, when viewed as "Source Beats", shows all the MIDI from the start of the unsplit clip up to the end of the split clip. And it is all editable within the clip itself.

"Split the clip from right to left".

That's exactly the way to reproduce this problem, confirmed (though, to be honest I can't reproduce it with my own clips, I wonder why :( )
