Can you provide a list of AUs installed on your system? These are located in both /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

Went into my admin account which is almost entirely untouched. completely emptied the HAL,Component, and VST folders. same deal, same crashed thread.
Thread 0 Crashed: 0 com.cockos.reaper 0x002f628c AU_UpdateCache() + 620 looks like this guy has it too.: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=29021 |

It's possible your reaper-auplugins.ini file is corrupted (because Reaper crashed while writing it) -- could you try renaming that file (so Reaper won't find it)? If Reaper does then start, could you please post the bad reaper-auplugins.ini file here? Thanks.

Hi EstataeMatt - I don't think your experience is typical, I've been using Reaper on mac for about a year and I've never had this problem (or any problem that severe!) ...

Do you have a reaper-auplugins.ini file? That file is written while Reaper is scanning AU plugins for validation, if one crashes during validation, the file might have been corrupted.
Reaper OSX has known problems with plugin compatibility, but crashing instantly on load is not typical. |

Thread 0 Crashed: 0 com.cockos.reaper 0x002f628c AU_UpdateCache() + 620 1) delete application support/REAPER just to be sure 2) launch reaper 3) command T 4) click FX button on that track in the mixer section of the main window 5) CRASH (usually takes 500-1000 ms so it must be in a low priority thread) 6) try and open reaper back up 7) splash screen gets to "initializing application" 8) CRASH 9) delete everything other than reaper.ini inside appsupprt/reaper 10) splash screen stays up until "initializing application" and WHAM! 11) delete reaper.ini from appsupport/reaper 12) reaper opens fine. |

IF I REMOVE THE LINE fxadd_vis=1 from reaper.ini , reaper loads fine but has the same problem
REAPER.ini after load (currently I see a dialog that says "you have not selected an audio device" and the splash screen is still up. first of all, reaper doesn't create auplugins.ini until I hit that FX button. More importantly, After it crashes and I open up the file, its got plugins in there that only (as far I or command F or spotlight can tell) are in an "unused plugins" folder on my desktop. Where the hell could it be finding these files? is there a ktext with a list of plugins somewhere or something? again to be clear, MacHD/Library/audio/plugins has nothing in it, and Me/Library/Audio/plugins has nothing in it W T F ? heres the file: ---- [auplugins] Magnus @ Smartelectronix: Ambience=<!inst> soundhack: +decimate=<!inst> Voxengo: PHA-979=<!inst> Voxengo: Stereo Touch=<!inst> Voxengo: Voxformer=<!inst> Yohng: W1=<!inst> Voxengo: Beeper=<!inst> Voxengo: MSED=<!inst> SlimSlowSlider: C3 Multi Band Compressor 1.2=<!inst> Voxengo: LF Max Punch=<!inst> Voxengo: Latency Delay=<!inst> Voxengo: Crunchessor=<!inst> Pluggo: HF Ring Mod=<!inst> Pluggo: Average Injector=<!inst> Pluggo: Generic Effect=<!inst> Pluggo: Chamberverb=<!inst> Pluggo: Resonation=<!inst> Pluggo: Jet=<!inst> VST: DRECEIVE R8=<!inst> Pluggo: Feedback Network=<!inst> Pluggo: FilterTaps=<!inst> Pluggo: Spectral Filter=<!inst> Pluggo: Nebula=<!inst> Pluggo: Resosweep=<!inst> Pluggo: Limi=<!inst> VST: Squid-Delay=<!inst> VST: Squid-Delay Mini=<!inst> IK Multimedia: AmpegSVXUNO=<!inst> Bram @ Smartelectronix: Bouncy=<!inst> Sound Consulting: Bad Cable=<!inst> Expert Sleepers: Buffer Delay=<!inst> Bram @ Smartelectronix: Crazy Ivan=<!inst> TAL-Togu Audio Line: Chorus-60-AU-Effect=<!inst> mda: Combo=<!inst> Teragon Audio: Convolver2=<!inst> Lowcoders & Bitplant: Kingdubby Dub Delay=<!inst> Teragon Audio: DualComp=<!inst> Andrew Garber:Warp Drive AU=<!inst> mda: Dynamics=<!inst> Destroy FX: EQ Sync=<!inst> Lernvall Audio: LAConvolver=<!inst> TAL-Togu Audio Line: Tal-Flanger-AU-Effect=<!inst> GSi:GS-201=<!inst> Bram @ Smartelectronix: SupaTrigga=<!inst> Ten by Ten: GWS RanPan=<!inst> jackosx.com: JACK-insert=<!inst> Dreampoint: Freeverb3=<!inst> KResearch: KR-Reverb FS=<!inst> Koen Tanghe @ Smartelectronix: KTGranulator=<!inst> AcousModules: SimpleConvo88X_multi=<!inst> MusicUnfolding: xTrem=<!inst> Expert Sleepers: Multitap Delay=<!inst> MusicUnfolding: MU xEQ=<!inst> Prosoniq: NorthPole=<!inst> iZotope: Ozone 3=<!inst> Audio Damage: FuzzPlus2=<!inst> Expert Sleepers: Phaser=<!inst> TAL-Togu Audio Line: Tal-Phaser-60-AU-Effect=<!inst> Vacuumsound: Poor Plate=<!inst> Audio Damage: PulseModulator=<!inst> QuikQuak: RaySpace=<!inst> Vacuumsound: RIAA=<!inst> SonicBirth: 20 Bands Eq=<!inst> SonicBirth: Multiband scraper=<!inst> SlimSlowSlider: Side Chain Compressor=<!inst> SPL: SPL Free Ranger=<!inst> SonicBirth: Effect design=<!inst> UR: Buff rice=<!inst> SonicBirth: Convolution reverb mono=<!inst> SonicBirth: Convolution reverb stereo=<!inst> SonicBirth: DC Blocker=<!inst> SonicBirth: Graphic Equalizer=<!inst> SonicBirth: Hum remover=<!inst> SonicBirth: Multiband freeverb=<!inst> SonicBirth: Simple reverb=<!inst> Audio Damage: RoughRider=<!inst> |

The system must keep a cache of all the installed AUs. That ini file does look normal. There's a possible bug in the cache reading that we'll fix for the next release, maybe that bug is triggering a problem with one of your AUs. Hopefully the fix will sort your problem.

EstateMatt, there may not be any point in you spending time on this -- the next prerelease build (hopefully soon) may fix the problem.

no worries. I've got all my plugs back in the folder with no problem. So I guess one of those four files were the culprit. should add that to the knowledge bank |
