3.21 (x86) on Windows 7 (x64) does not recognize NI plugins
Most of the NI plugins like Kontakt etc. are not recognized anymore

A strange bug occured here with Reaper 3.21 (32bit) running on Windows 7 (x64). The following VST plugins from Native Instruments are not recognized anymore:

Absynth 5, Battery 3, FM8, Guitar Rig 4, Kontakt 4 and Massive. (All plugins are up-to-date versions.)

Only Reaktor and Kore Player are listed in the plugin manager. I tried several VST rescans - no change. It works well in 3.20, so there seems to be something wrong in 3.21.

Best,
Kristian.

Please check that you do not have duplicate DLLs being scanned, or 64-bit versions included (directly or indirectly) in your 32-bit VST plug-in path. If everything looks right, try clearing your VST cache and rescanning.

There we changes to the scanning order of subdirectories in 3.21. Specifically if you scan the folder C:\plugins, then C:\plugins\file.dll will take precedence over C:\plugins\foo\file.dll (whereas in 3.2 the order was the opposite).

Thanks for the answer! It makes totally sense. I have not tested it yet, but I will do so in the evening. But I already know there is a "32 bit" folder and "64 bit" folder with NI plugins. So maybe that is the problem.
I will report later.

I had the same problem and went through it with DB.

Make sure you have 2 folders for plugins one 32 and one 64. Make sure your 32 reaper isn't scanning the 64 folder.

Make sure the 64reaper is scanning both folders.

I had to deleted Old versions of NI-VST's (which were updated), otherwise the new scan-order will load NI's old VST-versions.

C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 3\VSTPlugins 32 bit (new version)
C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins (old version)

Ok, solved. I had a 32bit and a 64bit subfolder in the VST dir containing same named NI plugins. Removed the 64bit ones and now the other show up in Reaper.
Thanks for the quick solution! :)

Don't you want to run Reaper 64 and keep the 64-bit versions? (for those huge Multis?)

Well, I just moved them to another dir for exactly that reason. But at the moment I am satisfied with the 32bit ones.
