Ok so I posted this two weeks ago in the Reaper User Group on Facebook, no replies. So here's what I wrote:

If I try to let the thing play and then stop if by clicking on Render - crash city~! Who's familiar with MIDI enough that can tell me how to solve this problem Thanks in advance

Let's see if I get this right:

You have a midi track, that is used to feed some midi plugins which in turn send to VST instrument - and you record output from that VST instrument?

Can you tell about your routings a bit?

Not sure what you mean by "routings," but I just have a MIDI track and a VSTi is the Instrument/Player.

Bad language, sorry, Reaper does not have midi tracks as such.

Routing is just what is feeding what - like midi input, to midi plugin1 and then?
You mentioned several midi plugins.

On FX dialog there is a setting - like for VST usually saying "2 out".

Clicking on that you get a matrix showing some of routings. Clicking on I/O button in that dialog( there is also a questionmark for help) you get a menu to tell any kind of routing between midi parts in and out etc.

You try to record audio from a VST instrument in realtime?

And before that instrument you have a couple of midi plugins?

I decided not to try that and just exported everything to a stereo .wav file. To my surprise, I got Cello playing where there wasn't supposed to be [I edited the MIDI file to only play on the Chorus & Hook, no verses.]

No. Only other plugin is Purest Gain from Airwindows after the VSTi.

I could probably just export each MIDI file as a separate instrument on .wav files and then edit each .wav file how I wanted. It's just that the instruments continuing to play after I shut off the Play function is annoying and I thought I'd try just going direct from MIDi and add my Vox. Was just curious, that's all.

DSK plugins can be buggy.

You can always enable the option to flush FX on stop (Preferences->Audio->Playback) and see if it helps.

Thanks, I'll try that. It's not only DSK, Acoustica Mixcraft plugins seem to want to do that, too.

Well, seems to have worked. The only thing I noticed is that I have to stop the play cursor somewhere the MIDI file is not, otherwise if you stop on the MIDI file itself, it keeps playing. At least for the Acoustica plugin. Not the DSK, it stops when it's supposed to.
