Default Windows Audio Problem (SOLVED)

Hey guys -

All of a sudden, I have no sound on my Windows PC EXCEPT for my 3 DAW's. They all work fine with my Focusrite Scarlet 18i8, but none of my existing audio files, internet/soundcloud etc will play. MP4 videos's, MP3's WAV's etc all played yesterday but now come up with an alert 'format not supported'

The PC Shows the AI as default playback device and working correctly.

Oh incidentally, it all works fine on my Mac Mini.

Any ideas to try?

I ask because it sounds like a codec problem

Thanks Hopi - yes, I do have VLC installed, but seldom use it. I'll try un-installing

ummm I was saying that VLC, [64 bit version] should be installed and I'd likely use it to play your media files.... IF that don't work then we can look further

Try with *any* other app since that error is usually app specific. However, being MP3 and MP4 sounds to me like a potential codec issue. Anything change before this started, install an app/uninstall etc.? The default Win10 app should play these fine though so drag one into reaper just to confirm it plays there then open item properties > source properties just to see what the props on the format are.

64bit vlc on 64bit OS and REAPER is of importance I think, yup.

That's messed up since WPS is MS Works file extension (old school word document). I would do the same thing, drag a renamed one into reaper and see if it thinks it is corrupt.

So just in case someone has a similar problem...

The computer guy came around yesterday - turns out it was a conflict of drivers. I had the Focusrite, internal sound card and HDMI from my flat screen telly (monitor) all listed. Although the Focusrite was listed as default, disabling the other two solved the problem.
